Wheel Shopping

So originally I had wanted a set of 15" steelies. However, the wife has decided that steel wheels wrapped in 32" of rubber will be too much fuel consumption for our budget, so I'm now looking at alloys.

I went to Discount Tire here in town, and the manager is willing to give me a HELL of a deal on either set of these in 15x7 w/ 6" backspacing:

The top ones are matte finish and ZERO chrome, so those are my pick. However, I don't want them to look absolutely ridiculous.

I have the chaos (second pic) and really like them. There isn't any chrome on them either its just a machined finish.

Personally I've seen too many trucks rocking the second set. Not saying they're bad or anything, I just personally don't like that they're everywhere!

That's exactly what I was thinking. I wanted the all black to begin with, or at least the black/matte black.



Also, according to their website, the 15s weigh 20lbs and the 16s weigh 22lbs.

I like the top ones, because I haven't seen anyone else with those. They look sharp

I've found it harder to find offroad tires (at least in my town) for 15s, but not everyone wants a crazy tire. Best of luck to you!

Tires are easy, unless you fall in love with a discontinued tire (like I did).


If I stuck with the factory 16s, I'd be paying $888 plus tax for KM2s.
If I buy wheels and buy 31x10.5x15s KM2s, I'd be paying $1044. PLUS, they give you a "discount" if you buy wheels AND tires from them, so it's almost insane to keep the 16s.

The manager told me they're having a Tent Sale, all in stock wheels are Buy 3, Get 1 free. He doesn't have the top ones in stock, but if I buy them this weekend he'll give me the sale price/special. That means 4 wheels for $297. I can't pass that up.

Depends on what I can talk the wifey into. I'd like to have 5, but we'll see. I think I'll be lucky to get "approved" for 4.

Just make sure they clear the caliper/rotors. But, I like the top ones! And, I too have alloy wheels, I couldn't justify the weight of the steelies. I will soon be running 285/75/16 tires on mine.

BUT, the 16" version of the KM2's have a much better load rating and wheel amazingly....so, unless you're just dying to get new wheels, save the money on the wheels

Dont you dare buy 31s...

At least go 32 11.50 15R Look at Xterra Mike on CX.. he ran 31s for a long time and hated them... Now he is in the 33 club...
I will say Im dropping out of that club with my next tire buy... Im going back to the 32s..

the 6" backspacing might be bad... that means the wheels would be 1/2" further inside the wheel wells

first ones for sure. lot of people run the 2nd set on there puddle jumper suvs around here. and i love matte black anyways. and agreed with the 31's i have them on there now i can't stand them. trying to decide what tires to get next myself.

Yes I found those rims on CL for 100$ deals can be had if your patent and broke
And yes those are KM2 32 11.50 15Rs I paid 600 for them.. with 4k miles on them... once again.. CL find... I saved about 300 dollars

I put a set of Raceline 981 Raptors on mine - got 'em at Discount Tire for 120 a pop.
