What size bolts for stock bumper?

I have a First Gen :D

I was told by a few people the bolts for the bumper are m12 x35 x 1.25 pitch. I know these fit perfectly in the front two mounting holes but have had some issues with the two holes that are on each side for mounting. Yup, I'm a stripper :)

(also someone else mentioned the pitch might be 1.75 for those side bolts.)

Anyone know? I ultmately plan to drill through the frame horns and use grade 8 bolts when the weather is nicer and use a back plate for strength, but I need to make sure this sucker is safe for the next run I want to attend in January. I think I have stripped either two bolts or two holes hard to tell which at this stage

I'd love to use the original bolts to find out size but they went into a huge "bolt, fastener, etc" bag I have and who knows what biolt is for what at this point and the info I was given was supposedly spot on--it may be spot on, but if anyone knows the true bolt sizes for those bolts stock that would be awesome.

Last person who asked was Baf6 at the Clubx page and only answer he got was "drill though, sleeve and use class 8 hardware: :D

1.5 would be more likely, I don't remember it being fine thread when I picked up some for mine. Pretty sure I used a 12.9 grade as well

Im just looking to see if my problem isnt threads in the Xterra but the bolts--which look narrower when I remove them--sort of pinched narrower then rest of bolt that doesnt sit in the threaded hole. If I am using the wrong bolt and the right one works--my problem is solved for now and I can drill through in spring :D

I just went out and pulled a side bolt on my '04. It's a 10x1.25 like the front, except they have a 17mm head whereas the front bolts have a 14mm head.

awesome! That sounds like what I have. All mine are 17mm heads and 1.25 pitch and M10? I was sure it was 12mm - not sure why. Maybe Ill try some new bolts and see how they work first. I'll drill those two holes if I cant get them to tighten hard, Thanks for pulling that bud! :D

No problem. Many auto parts stores have a tap and dye set in their loaner tools. If the new bolts don't help you may try cleaning up the threaded holes with a tap.

You'll be fine. James and I had the various states of the RLC bumper build on and off probably 15 times or more. I shot them with PB twice a day for two days before I tried to loosen them the first time and didn't have any trouble. Plus, you already have your stock plastic off. I try to keep my X clean so I was surprise to see how much mud I had been missing when spraying the underside when I pulled mine off.

Hee hee Guess what? I stripped the threads in the nut welded into the frame horn :) I ran a 10MM 1.25 tap in there too .

Looks like the sides are going to get "Mr. 1/2 inch" cobalt drill bit to remap em to use grade 8, half inch bolts (through frame horn) soon. I may also decide to do that with 10 MM ones too--since I bought that size cobalt bit too :D)

Thanks to all,
