I'm planning on building a rear storage box for the X and stoking with with some must-have items. And the uncreativeness set it haha.

So I turn to you lovely folks.. What must you always have in the X with you? For anything.. Off roading trips, camping weekends, or just driving in general.

I know the obvious things like jumper cables, flashlight, light, etc.. But I wanna know some more off the wall things that you gotta have!

Hopefully this will enable people (including me ;)) to get more ideas from other people that they wouldn't have thought of. I appreciate the help guys!

From this thread:

My X has basically become my camping / survival / off-road buddy. Well, that and my dog.

In the X at ALL times:

D-rings & tow strap, shovel, tire gauge, tool box, maps, phone chargers, multi-tool, duct tape, 4lb sledge, tent, sleeping bag, hoodie, pillow, thick paracord & thin paracord, tent stakes, knives, hatchet, 7 flashlights with extra batteries (that's right - seven), two walkie-talkies with extra batteries, extra phone batteries, hiking boots & socks, fire starters, bungee cords, hitch & ball, bug spray, zip ties, ratchet straps, jumper cables, granola bars, water, canned goods (chicken, fruit, and beans, along with food for my pup), monocular, more knives, aspirin, upgraded Xterra first-aid kit, road flares, small wire cutters, lockpicks, latex gloves, work gloves, ziploc bags, compass, 6-liter water jug with purification system, machete (Gerber Jr. Gator), tomahawk, sabre saw, spork, water bottles, electrical tape, hand wipes, shop towels, camp stove, scent killer, fire extinguisher, wool blanket, tarps, ratchet straps, survival guides & books, trail maps / topography information for the entire state, and tubs and bags for everything. Compression and mobility is the key.

Added: Hi-Lift, ladder, Mossberg 500, 12G shells, canteens, ENO hammock setup, Ruger 10/22 Takedown, CB.

If you think about it, the Xterra is sort of the jack-of-all-trades when it comes to stuff like camping, off-roading, overlanding, adventuring, and general survival. Maybe that's why I was so drawn to it.

And my go-bag, which has:

Compass, pistol and two mags, 12G shells, monocular, Sharpies, flash drive with encrypted and protected files (driver's license, insurance card, birth certificate, social card, CPL), knife, two flashlights with extra batteries, trail first aid kit, water purification tablets, ibuprofen, spare keys, lock picks, wire, wire cutters, phone batteries, electrical tape, matches, fire starters, matches, zip ties, titanium spork, and 100ft paracord.

Good luck ;)

Jack Stilts - Prepared for the apocalypse lol. That's an impressive list sir. I need to do better myself.

I keep a set of sockets, wrenches, bit driver, flashlight, first aid kit, tire gauge, tire deflator, recovery strap, d rings, jumper cables, pistol, phone charger, spare cash, knife, gorilla tape, toilet paper, shop towels, and a couple other miscellaneous items in the X at all times.

All this stuff fits under the rear seats, in the rear cubby spot, and in the glove box. No loose items in the seats or cargo area. You should be able to get all sorts of stuff in a nice storage box.

Thanks guys! This is helping quite a bit.

And that's the plan; getting a whole bunch of stuff in there. I'm about to start taking measurements and working on a good design.
