Timing chain

I finally got to check out my truck today.

Back story, it was whining and I swapped the belt, then I swapped the tensioner and the whine still did not stop. I didn't want to admit that it was the timing chain.

So today I took the belt back off and started the truck. It whined, and I almost cried.

At this point I fell like I wussed out by not fixing it myself but with my schedule it just would be nearly impossible.

I dropped it of at Newton Nissan this morning and their customer service has been totally awesome. They even gave me a new Altima to drive until they fix it and have been calling me and giving me updates on the progress and the last call was to let me know it won't be quit as expensive as the original quote.

They did say that the timing chain cover blew a gasket and was causing oil starvation and that was the cause of the problem. So a new cover is being overnighted and I will have my truck back no later than Monday and possibly tomorrow.

I'll follow up this post with a final report, but so far Newtons' service has been outstanding!

The keyless feature on the Altima is way cool! Why didn't they do that with the X? I have to take my key off my key chain when I wheel because I can't stand it beating against my steering colum.

Well, the Altima is more of a luxury vehicle, or at least for comfort. The X is built as a SUV workhorse. Or to transport soccer moms.

Well I got my truck back today and I could not be more pleased.

The service was great, they gave me the nXm discount and like I said they hooked me up with a loaner car for the weekend. I miss the push button start already, but after driving around in the Altima all weekend it felt like they lifted my truck while they had it, it felt HUGE! LOL

They had to replace they back timing chain cover because of a blown gasket. Nissan does not ship the gasket or cover that blew out by itself because there have not been many failures. So you have to order the whole rear cover assembly.

and this oil channel cover is not from my truck but a Fronty but it shows the missing gasket part.

The guys and gals there we great and the service was out standing. And for those of you who know me know I don't really want anyone else touching my truck. I've helped work on a bunch of other trucks but since i've owned my truck the only help I've ever had was Dave helping me with my sliders. These guys were the first to drive/work on my truck since i've owned it.

on the left is Jamie, I think he is the head mechanic, and on the right is Russell Newton who took care of me the whole way through.

And also I have to mention Robert, he is the guy who hooked me up with my loaner. Cool guy, he is customizing a Versa Hatch!

And the cherry on top, they washed and vacuumed out my X

So, if you have anything that you think is above your head our outside your timeline, and you are near Nashville, You have to go to Newton!

Good to hear there are such great dealers out there. I know we read and hear a lot of negative stories about "stealerships" so it's great when we get the flip side of that coin. Shout out to the gang at Newton!
