Spare Parts to keep on hand

I'm been known to take long trips in my X at weird hours of the day. I am starting to think about taking trips out to nomans land for weekends and such.

So I know people will recommend going with others, tools, water, food and, ... But my true question is what spare parts would you pack in your X?

  • Drive Shaft U-Joint
  • Alternator
  • Starter
  • Coil Pack
  • Serpentine Belt
  • Lower/Upper Rad Hoses
  • CV boot
  • Spark Plug
  • CV joint (I have the PRG extended axles so I'm going to take apart a stock Half axles and just remove the main axle and take each side)
  • Lubricants (Eng, Diff, Tran Oil, Water for radiator, Graphite and Grease)
  • Wire (random sizes and lengths)
  • Welding Rods
What on my list is good what would you say no thanks to. I don't know if this is old school train of thought but I was always told/taught to bring Ignition system stuff.

I plan to keep this list organized and up to date with people’s suggestions.

I think keeping ignition parts handy would be for older vehicles, including first gen Xterras, that still used a distributor based ignition. I doubt you'll ever have to do anything besides regular scheduled maintainance on a VQ with their electronic ignition and coil packs. I've never once had ignition issues on the 8 cars my wife and I have had with electronic ignition systems. But as almost any first gen owner will tell you, The distributors can be problematic.

You might want to consider a pair of spare front wheel unit bearings, upper ball joints, and tie rods/TRE's. Other than that, I can't think of any other parts.

Also, if you're going to solo in the boonies, out of range of cellular communications, think about a Spot or InReach satellite communicator for true emergencies. I prefer the InReach; it has much better customer reviews, but either is better then nothing.
