Scott400's Build "Daisy"

Hey everyone, I'm new to this so any constructive criticism is welcomed. So a little about me, I'm a 17 year old guy and up untill yesterday I drove my dad's old 97 GMC Sierra (a fantastic truck, and I love the big beaute) but I needed something of my own for college. I'll tell y'all the whole story of how I got my X if you wanna hear it, but ill skip that for now.

So anyways its a stock silver 2007 SE 2wd, ill post some pics of her when I get home, provided it stops raining by then.

All of y'all's builds are really awesome and I wish could do all that you've done, but I'm a poor high school student, soon to be poor college student. So that brings me to my main question, what mods do you recommend that I do?

I already have some things in mind that I'd like to do but I'm not really sure what to do first.
Here's what I'd like to do:
CB radio (and antenna)
Lift kit (probably old man emu)
Roof lights
New rims and 33" tires
4wd conversion at some point, if possible
Front bumper
Rear bumber (unsure about rear tire carrier)

Let me know if there's something you think I missed or something I should avoid, I'll take any advice I can get. Also I'm not really sure what to do interior wise do and help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help you can give, and I hope to meet some of y'all at some Xterra meets in the future.

I see what you did here.

Welcome in. There are several of us "broke student members." Check out WENT Windrock at some point.

As far as your plans go, there are several members here who can provide good advice for what you're looking for. 4WD is possible, but its a pain and often recommended to just sell and re-buy a 4x4.

Welcome in!

First thing I did with mine was prioritize what I actually needed. What are your plans with the truck - heavy off-road? Camping? Boat towing? Zombie annihilating? Use this goal as a way to see what you need / want to do first. If you're planning on driving it for long periods at a time, focus on creature comforts like audio and fuel economy. If you're planning on beating the ever-loving crap out of it on some trails, probably a good idea to armor up with bumpers / sliders / skid plates.

XterraNation is a wonderful bunch of people; don't hesitate to ask around for anything you can't find with the search box! :)

Welcome dude. Like Faux said there are plenty of us Broke college students around. I feel your pain.

Just prioritize what you want/need like I did. I left the heavy mods until the summer when I was making money and did the cheaper lighter ones while at school. And be patient, I got my X at 17 and it was mostly stock until this past May when I made my goal to go to WENT.

But Like Brian (jackstilts) said what are you aiming to do with it? That would be your first question

Welcome, Looking forward to see what you do with it. As suggested I would really consider what you want out of it realistically and then figure out what is needed vs wanted.

The money situation doesn't get much better after college. Not in this day and age it seems.

My rig Gigi is about to go underneath the knife. (need to make my own build thread speaking of) to convert her to 4wd with a lokka.

Wow thanks everyone, I didn't think I would get this many replies. Thanks to your advice I thought about where I really wanted to go with my X and to me it seems kinda stupid/silly to do most of the mods that I would like to do since I only have 2wd. And selling and buying another is pretty much out of the question, so I think a 4wd conversion is gonna be first on my to do list, except maybe a few minor interior mods.

Footsteps I'm glad to see someone else doing a 4wd convertion, I'd love to hear how you're doing it.

For a 4wd conversion like your talking about, I would suggest watching like junkyards, tow yards, classifieds, etc. for totaled out 2nd gens. A parts truck, is gonna be your best bet. As long drive train is mostly undamaged the parts can be relatively cheap. Granted you've got a newer x so your gonna be looking at 05 and up

Would a titan swap be the same level of difficulty and about the same price as doing stock parts that come on an xterra?

And I also thought about the electronic shift problem, and I'll either bypass the whole problem and install a manual shifter, or I'll bite the bullet and spend the time to figure out how to rewire it all.

I hate to drone on, but I'd rather put everything all in one post. So my final question, is it worth it to go to went this year if I only have 2wd?

Instead of just adding a trans & tcase (+wiring), you'd be swapping in a titan differential, upper control arms, lower control arms, taller coilovers (I'm not sure I've heard of people using the stock suspension hardware with titan parts), and titan CV shafts instead of Xterra equivalents.

IMO, its easier to swap in titan components than swap transmissions... much easier.

I started my build at 17, 21 now... So no worries there. I would suggest a ton of research before you do something to the truck. I've spent money on stuff I didn't need or could've done cheaper and regret it now. Figure out where you wanna go with the truck and go for it

Have you thought about adding a locker and a good set of tires? Before you fully commit to a 4wd swap. I've got a buddy with a 06 Tacoma pre-runner, rear locking dif, and km2s thats pretty capable off-road. Just a thought

So I've been doin some thinking and lots of looking around online, and I've made a few decisions (all still tentative and open to suggestions). First of all right now I just want to make my X look good, so my main decision is to do a 2" BL (any idea what the best brand is?) and then a cb radio and antenna. I decided to do these first cause 1) they are fairly inexpensive and 2) I'd like to get my feet wet some before I do a 4wd titan swap (hopefully summer 2016 or 2017).

Welcome! I would suggest the hood rod mod. Replaces the hood rod with gas lift struts. Inexpensive mod that you will enjoy every time you open the hood.

Hey y'all I'd appreciate some help with posting pictures on here, cause I cannot figure it out. Thanks

Go to imgur, photobucket, or tinypic and follow the instructions to upload a picture to their site. From there, it'll give you some hyper-link options (usually 4). Choose the option for forums often starting with [.IMG] and ending with [./IMG] WITHOUT the '.' in the brackets. Copy that code and paste it in your thread. *NOTE*: if you use Photobucket, remove the tags and from the code, but keep e... you remove the period (.) from the brackets.
