Ok, so, I'm not sure if anyone else is into the RC Rock Crawlers but, I figure I'll post up a few good pics and eventually get video posted once I finally finish my big one.

here's my bigger one as it was built for the pre-2009 Super Class rules, everything's custom build, no "out of the box" goodies for me ;)

redesigned skid and motor mount for my transmission and dig. that motor is HUGE too....to put it in perspective, the knife handle you see underneath it is about 1.5" wide

here's what my first one looked like after I did a bit of tweaking....

do you want a 5T or a 5B-SS?

I'd be more addicted to the idea of either one if they were 4wd instead...

I'm actually getting ready to start building an electric (brushless) 5B for a friend...I'll try to get pics if they let me publicize them. It's supposed to be going overseas as soon as it's finished so we'll see.

Yea, the HPI Baja 5T... I like the truck body, and they work great in the dunes!! But I see that they sell newer versions called 5SS and 5SC... You should for sure post up pics if they let you, that is really cool your involved in that! They are awesome machines.

yep, they are....

if you're enough of an RC geek to follow the implications of the following....

it uses 4 of these batteries, set up in a 2 series 2 parallel configuration, for a total of 29.6V with 22,000mah capacity. (roughly capable of 880A constant, provided the wiring can handle it)
this is it's electronic speed control and will have two of these added to help with the "on demand" power requirements of the motor.
speaking of the motor, here is the beast

all in all, when it's done, it should be able to run for a couple of hours at a time, I'm leaving charging all of those battery packs to them, as they're going to take a LOT of charging time...and a very expensive charging unit. The one that I have wouldn't even be able to charge ONE of the 4 packs per hour...it'd take me probably 2 hours per pack, and that's charging at 0.5C which isn't really recommended or all that safe...

the motor is just obscene, if memory serves it's rated at around 10HP, had to get custom driveshafts made because the stock ones weren't strong enough....

oh, a quick bit of looking on my source site for most RC parts says they're gonna be dropping a TON of money on charging solutions, the only battery charger on the site that can charge the battery at 1C which is what it NEEDS charged at (11A/hr) is $280 and the separate power supply that it has to have to use it on AC is another $300. good thing said friend is getting this all bought by daddy who is buying me a new winch of my choice for building this for his son who's deployed and dad thinks he needs something fun...I'm not sure how dad plans on getting the batteries shipped to him over there, or how they're shipping them home, but, that's on them, not me lol
