Hard to describe...but basically I am curious what the actual widest width is (approximately) on a 285 75 16 tire. See graphic below.
I am working on my tire carrier design...and am trying to work out the spacing from the vertical/triangular posts to the actual mating surface where the rim bolts to. Obviously that is dependent on the offset/backspace of the rim and the size of the tire. I have the stock size rim to measure off of, but I only have a 31 inch tire on it right now. Just curious how much wider a 285/75/16 tire is at the widest point?
I know how to read tire sizes etc...11.22 inches is what that works out to. Is that number just the tread width though? Does that account for sidewall to side wall at the "fattest" point? Just curious how much wider than the stock rim it would sit.
Obviously this isn't a huge difference...but I am just curious since I don't have one to test fit. I'd hate to design something then find out I left a huge gap, or that the gap is too tight.
