I am in the market for a good black paint. I used rustoleum bed liner on my plastics and I'm not quite happy with the results. (i noticed it chips under a pressure wash and regular wear and tear)

I'm going to be painting my Yakima as well as maybe the stock roof rails. I want something that doesn't fade or chip easily...

Has anyone tried this? CLICK HERE

It seems like it would withstand the sun/heat beating down on it but thought I would ask before picking some up.

From just the description it seems like it might work. You'd want to thoroughly read and follow the directions of course. You might also consider bumper paint. That's what I used on my grill back when I painted it grey. More than two years later it still wasn't faded and had no chips. I just cleaned it and gave it a cost of adhesion promoter before painting.

if you like bedliner, than i would use the duplicolor bed armor. My dad used it on his rock sliders on his chevy and it held up really well so far.

I just shot my entire rack w/ rustoleum professional flat black. It covered awesome and looks killer. The whole thing is in my garage curing for a minute before I subject it to the elements

Hey Snicker I am in the process of painting much of the trim parts on my truck. I dont have any long term results yet, but i have plastic pieces painted in both Plastidip and Rustoleum Bedliner. My rims are painted in Plastidip. I am thinking about painting my steel bumpers in Rustoleum Flat Black. In all cases i clean the surface, rough it up w sand paper, clean with acetone and then paint, usually 3 coats. So, if you check back in a few months I should have some good data for you.

Took paint stripper to mine. Removed all the old paint and sanded smooth. Then used a Duplicolor charcoal wheel paint. Paint seems just as good as the OEM finish. I've had kayaks and other things up top. I haven't touched it since I sprayed it several years ago no fading. I'm surprised how resilient the paint is.

Pink rails would look sweet... I'm surprised the rustoleum isn't holding up .. I did my rack in that 3 years ago and it still looks good

Xterror- It def isn't holding up. I'll have to remember to take some pics of the wear and tear tonight to show ya.

Snicker, I used the rustoleum too on my hood and roof rails. Both are chipping and peeling after about 7 months, however the Duplicolor bed armor I used on my bumpers is holding strong. I'm going to be redoing everything in that, plus I like the texture that gives better than the rusto.

I wonder if the product had changed... The duplicolor is good stuff though

I personally would prefer to monstaline anything and everything. But it's super expensive. I would love to do the black of my truck in a black monstaline but at $200 (ish) a gallon it would be an expensive ass job. lol

Yeah being that they are aluminum and not in complete view. You don't have to worry about rust or it being as perfect as you might think. Well from prior experience.

Possible, I picked up the rusto figuring "Hey great brand been around forever." I was wrong, half the cans I got didn't even want to spray right they would clog constantly and would only spray at certain angles (Staright up, lol).
