Charles Laspata, age 28, is my best friends, Toni and Denny Laspata's Brother. He was in a motorcycle accident in October 2011, in which he lost his leg. On March 17th 2012 his friends, family and co-workers are having a Beef and Beer Benefit to help raise money for his prosthetic leg. The leg is costing him $86,000.00, which insurance isn't covering. Chas throughout all that he has been though in the past few months has been upbeat, heartfelt and strong. He has the same, if not better, attitude towards live. Living and loving every moment he has been given. He will have you falling off your seat with his jokes and personality by making jokes about you and himself as well. We are gathering on this day to be thankful that all we lost on that day was a limb and not a life. It is a celebration of life

It was brought to my attention from a fellow X'er, which whom, I have not personally met, to post here on XN- a community for the people by the people, to see if anyone else would like to help. I know that in times like now where the wallet is tight, that not everyone can help. If you can't help by the means of a donation that please be kind and say a prayer and to help keep other cyclists safe by being aware when you are driving and they are near.

Donations can be made via PayPal. Although there is not a paypal acct set up just for the benefit, anyone who sends money to my paypal can be assured that a check in the correct amount will be handed straight to Chas by myself. DaniLaurette@hotmail.com is where donations can be sent. Please include "Donation for Chas" in the message section.

Thank you all for your huge hearts!

This pulls on the old heart strings. Not just his story but for him to have a friend like you. I can't give much but expect my donation soon.

Thank you for the donations everyone. Wow is all I can say. I can't wait to hand Chas a check already and the thread has only been up for less than 24 hours.

This community has some of the most loving and caring people i have ever met. My sincere thanks to everyone.

Well as of late Friday night we had a rough total of $12,000.00! Since Chas has a heart that is bigger than the world he has started a foundation for others in need. Once the name of the new foundation is known to me i'll be sure to share. Thank you everyone for your kindness and donations. When I told Chas what I am doing and how much you all have helped so far he started crying with happiness. He couldn't grasp the fact that people he has never met or spoken to could be so kind. He wanted me to thank you all for the bottom of his heart.

12K down, 74K to go....c'mon peeps lets get this guy walking again....

doodle...have you posted this up on all of the forums you're on? I can only presume that it'd get a semi-decent response from plenty of people....

actually, find something you're good at doing or find friends that're good at it and do a marathon on ustream and see if ya'll can't make some $$$ that way....I know last year mariomarathon.com raised $112,675 for childsplay charity...it can be done ;)

Thanks for the donations that just came in as well!

Hyde- i have posted up on TNX as well. I'm not really active on CX anymore. I'll have to look into ustream to possibly set something up like that. Thanks for the suggestion! It's a great idea! :squW00shy:

A email from Chaz, He asked me to post it on here for everyone..

"“THANKFUL” is the first word that pops into my head. When my sister-in-law’s best friend came to me with a check. I was thankful for her effort in helping me pay for my prosthetic. Then she informed me of the story of how the money came about. For a group of people that Dani mostly knows from online, not knowing most in real life, to go out of their way and help someone they have never met or heard of makes me speechless. There are not enough words in the English language for me to tell you how thankful I am for your contributions to help me.

If I could hug each and every one of you, I would. The amount of joy I felt when Dani informed me is beyond describable. A sincere thank you to all of you from the bottom of my heart. For thanks to you I am another step closer to owning my prosthetic.

Sincerely and with much love,
Chas"
