well i was originally planning on ordering projectors sometime this week, but after i totaled up the cost of them they're a bit out of my price range at the time. I really need new headlights, and I've read mixed reviews of HID kits for headlights without using projectors. I was thinking about getting ddm tuning 35w 5000K HIDs. Will these be blinding to other drivers? Any thoughts?

im in the same boat you are. around here there are no lights at night on the highways and the deer are numerous to say the least so lighting is extremely important. my buddy kept stressing hid's for me but i just think they are a waste of money in the long run. im just taking that money and saving for the projector retrofit kit and wait that much longer for them. thats just my situation right now and i can afford to wait just because the sun isnt going down until 9pm and at the peak of summer it wont get dark until close to 10. but in my opinion just wait, with the projectors you will use all the light output and with hid's it just seems like a lot of the light gets wasted and for not much benefit

Go get some Sylvania SilverStar Ultras. They are the brightest whitest halogens you can get. They make a big difference over the common every day bulb.

Best bet outside of HID is auxiliary lighting. Some fog lights or spot lights will way out shine the HID headlights. If you do long stretches of rural road like I used to a pair of HID spotlights wired to your brights are what you need. Otherwise some basic halogen fog lights can be used with the low beams if aimed low enough.

Honestly the impact of the HID headlights wasn't huge compared to the stock housings. Better yes but not worth the $ based on the light output difference. They are super expensive. But, if you drive every night it might be worth the cost. My cheap hella 500's with HID 45w let me drive as if its daylight for $70. Hardly legal but just saying.

Biggest thing with light isn't brightness but aim. For example your brights are no brighter then the low beams just the light is aimed higher on the road. With national safety standards all headlights have to have about the same aim and brightness by law to not blind oncoming traffic. With projectors the light is way more precisely aimed as its projected rather then reflected. Therefore with projectors the light is more focused and solid all the way across.

With auxiliary lighting for offroad use there are no restrictions on light placement so its aimed with the driver in mind not on coming traffic. So the same bulb in a offroad housing will seem much brighter.

yea I already have 2 6" pro comps converted to 55w 5000k hids on the bumper and I have 2 on the roof now, soon to be 4. I also have 2 rigid duallys up front so I'm pretty set in auxiliary lighting haha. but I would just like my headlights to be a little better and match the color of my hids and LEDs a bit better

Lol well in that case. HID projectors may be your last lighting mod. The last final touch. You can mess with high powered halogen bulbs. I'd suggest the phillips xtreme power over the sliver stars However, all performance bulbs have shorter life span.
