Hey All,

I'm in the market for a new handheld GPS. I'm wanting to get back into Geocaching, and of course use it for other outdoor activities. I like all the Bells and Whistles when it comes to electronics. But I do want to keep it some what cheap. I've always been a garmin fan. And suggestions are welcome......

I used to be a Lowrance fan, but I heard a LOT of negative feedback on their new stuff being junk.

Garmin is the best thing going now from what I can tell. Seems like many people moved to smart phones for Geocaching, I can't stand a jack of all trades master of none device so I never went there. Great for in the city (which I hate) but out where there is no cell service and heavy tree cover (aka where the good caches are) it would be a pain.

If I had to get a new handheld, I'd probably go for the higher end Garmin units. I like the ones with the antenna sticking up, I always thought they could hone in better if you hold that antenna high.

Definitely get one with an electronic internal compass, those absolutely rock for honing in on a cache. Pretty standard on them now I think. When you stop GPS derived direction goes nuts, with those internal compasses, you can skip all that back and forth trying to figure out which way to go. #1 feature I'd go for.
