Great write up here:

Question I have is on the 2004 version, where it has the low profile vent, how do you attach a breather tube to it? Do you have to drill it out and apply your own barbed fitting?

Mine looks like:

you can also pull the cap off of that air admittance valve, shove a section of fuel line over the nipple that is left, and put a clamp on it

This is exactly what I did and it's been fine. I even took it a step further and used the cap to make my own breather out of a short length of threaded rod. I drilled a hole through the length of the threaded rod and installed the cap over the end of it. Re-crimped the cap in the same fashion as the OEM breather, and clamped the other end of the rod into the hose. Bing bada boom, done for the cost of a couple feet of fuel line.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys...I wasn't sure how it went on/off and didn't want to risk breaking it. I've been through some deep mud and water, and need to get that diff snorkel installed and rear oil changed.

Also...Is there a need to extend or reroute the front diff breather? Just curious...I just put the normal one back on while installing the Lokka. It looked pretty high, but I didn't really follow it to see where it goes...

The front is up pretty high to begin with, it is on the back of the head between the fire wall and the head. What is much more important there is the breather for the tranny. they are side by side, and i would strongly suggest adding a bit of hose to raise it some more.

For the rear I just ran mine into the drivers tail light housing. lets face it, if I am that deep in water I have more things to worry about that the oil in the rear diff.

This is what I ended up doing today...not to the tail light but to a cross member. Held by zip ties. I had to widen the 1/4 in fuel line by threading onto a tapered punch and heating it with propane torch so it would fit on the valve. I figure that if it goes as high as top most body panel, and since it has a loop, it should def be better than then 3/8 " stupid cap

The drivers side on that cross member is where the factory location was on my 2000. I have been deeper than that a few times. I also pulled mine up to the tail light.

I just did this on mine...

http://xterrra.blogspot.ca/2014/04/diff-breather-extension.html

....and found a nasty surprise.....time to change diff oil me thinks!

Now for an oil change after seeing that hole in the old breather plug!!

Pea-green is not the colour you want to see coming out of your rear diff.

I dumped some cheap temporary oil in there to flush out the soup.

Thankfully I only do 100km/month!!

Gross!!!!!

That is about what my front diff oil looked like...and I also changed my rear diff fluid when doing the breather...Sprayed some parts cleaner in the diff housing and let it drain out...it needed some cleaning
