For airflow vs cost you can do not a whole lot better than a fan from a mid 80s to early 90s Ford Taurus. Can usually be had at a junk yard for about $30-$40. Moves enough air to make your head spin. And it's a two speed fan. So you can wire it to run at the low speed below a certain temp and high only kicks in when you really need it.

Now, with great power, comes great responsibility.

That being said, the Taurus had a 160A alternator. Mainly because of this fan. From a dead stop to high speed the startup draw is close to 120A. However, once running the amp draw is not significant. So, in running this option, an upgraded alternator would almost be a priority as well. But for an electric fan, you can't get much better.

I have one sitting in the garage for the X. As soon as I do a Quest Alt swap, it's game time.

Jay you planning on doing the quest shop before you come to NXM or after? I ask because I am doing an efan swap in my truck at nxm, granted that the money comes in and the parts are sourced by me then.

/EndThreadJack I just wanted to say that I am doing one and I am really happy about it.

what if i put an efan on the front of the Rad. that just kicks on for slow trails and traffic and kept the prop fan?
i saw some for 80 bucks that move 2500-3k cfms.

Why add an electric if your going to keep the engine driven one? If your overheating with the stock fan, you have issues that another fan will not fix it. I had my first gen in 113* desert crawling with no overheating.

The Taurus fan is a good replacement like said above, I used one on my 240sx drift car, ran low speed hooked up to a thermostat and have the high speed on a switch while at the track drifting, sliding sideways at high speed doesn't push air through the radiator and intercooler very well so the high settings along with good ducting keeps temps in check.

Proper ducting is often overlooked but very important, the air will flow where it has the least resistance so if you make sheet metal ducting and seal the gaps, it will direct the air so it has to go through the radiator. Around the fan is also important so that air is pulled through the entire surface of the rad, not just in front of the fan.

If you haven't already. Perhaps a Supercharged edition radiator would help. With the thicker core it cools much more effectively.

If I've got the cash I'll do it before. But I still have to replace my entire exhaust system before then. Well legally I have to have it done by the end of July. So.....budget may be constrained to much before nXm to pull that off.

I'd be glad to help w/ yours though.

I picked up a new dorman fan from autozone for a 2002 Ford windstar. It's a shade wider than my radiator, has dual fans (one high speed only and one high/low) and for $106 new, I couldn't pass it up. I did however trim the mounting tabs off of it and had to modify the lower corner near the p/s gearbox.

I've just got the right fan hooked up at the moment to a switch. I don't run it unless I'm in town or anything below 45 MPH. With what has been said, it does draw a great deal of amps to get it started, but once its on, its good.

I have noticed a little more under the skinny pedal (or at least feels like it) and have noticed almost 1-2 MPG increase.

My end plan is to have the two speed fan on a temp switch and the single speed tied in with the a/c system.
