Don't forget your local heroes today

I'm headed out to go see my lil "bro" while he's at work today...he's a fireman for the town of Smyrna.

Folks, I know we focus on our military, but don't forget the local heroes. There are thousands of police, fire, and EMS workers who are on the job right now, missing out on Christmas morning with their families, to keep US safe.



Matter of fact, the first wreck I worked that involved an XTerra was on Christmas Day 2005 (or 2006, can't remember). Guy had a load of Christmas dinners in the cargo area, got on the interstate, and rolled somehow. Still not quite sure what he was doing, but either way, he rolled it over and sent chicken and ham EVERYWHERE in that truck...and on the road...and all over him. Poor guy lost his dinner AND his truck in the same moment.





Moral of the story- if you see a cop, or a fire truck, or an ambulance out today, GIVE THEM A BIG HUG OR A HANDSHAKE.

Aww you missed Santa's arrival. Lucky ducky, I got to work at 1000 and wont be home till after 2200. Oh well, today is Xmas and my goal is to be nice and leave people alone as best I can so they can enjoy the holiday that much more.

While I was at my buddy's station (I'm off today, fortunately), a mother and her two daughters brought decorated cookies to the station.


Just prayin I don't have to go in last minute.

^Nice! I like it when the public does things like that (rarely happens). But it is much appreciated when people do express their thanks.

Can't go wrong with free food...well, most of the time I guess, haha.

Amen to that!! My shift was on Thanksgiving 08 and we didn't even have to cook! We did anyway (cause that's what firemen do), but the public brought in SOOOOO MUCH FOOD that we took it to the food bank in town and let them have it.

I never forget my local heroes. My brother's son is a cop and my sister's husband is the Fire Chief and their son is also a firefighter. Those guys work extremely hard for not much pay so, I always try to do something extra for them and their comrades. I took a bunch of them fishing last week and we fried fish for the ones that couldn't go because they were on duty.

^That's awesome! Well, I tried to be nice yesterday. Ended up working 14h. Woo. And no holiday pay either, sheesh! Ah well, love my job and my coworkers. Just jealous of the fire people and the cool trucks they get to drive around in, hahaha (got a new 100' ladder truck last year, thing is BA to see the inside of when at the shop).

Psh, no. I had no desire to carry 150lbs dead weight up/down stairs, haha. Besides, work is more fun/interesting when the world already dislikes you b/c then you can only go up from there.
