I haven't even heard much talk regarding future Xterra's. It scares me slightly, thinking Nissan is gong to kill them off. I also don't follow the auto world a whole lot...so I might just be an idiot. Regardless, if it did happen, it would be pretty cool. I'd deff consider the purchase.

Yes. There is a shared platform.

However, as much as it pains me to see it. I don't think the X is long for the production line. The 14 is just now shipping. In 14. That tells me that there was a strain to even do something notable to the truck to update it. And they didn't do anything. New wheels. That's it.
Given that the diesel Titan is being held until 2015, I would think that the Fronty platform won't see it until 2016 at least.

If, by some miracle, there is a diesel X. You can bet your ass I'll be buying one.

Maybe I should just goto Brazil or whatever it is and get one of the first generation Diesels and bring it back here....

With Nissan killing off the Pathfinder (in he proverbial sense) it makes the Xterra is the only hard-working SUV in their line-up. In the class of full-framed SUV's, there's not much either. You've got what, the JK Unlimited, the 4Runner The FJ Cruiser and the Xterra if you need an SUV that does more than move people and groceries, but you don't need a pickup truck. The benefit of the Xterra is that its shared with the Frontier, and on the Titan shared platform, so it helps R&D and manufacturing costs. I don't see the X being killed unless they kill off the Frontier as well. And if it's true, if the Jeep is going IFS to save on fuel, it really makes the X more competitive against it. The X did get diesel, so Nissan has experience with it. Diesels are getting popular here, look a Mazda and GM bringing it here this year. You never now also if Dodge makes the diesel more popular in their lineup (as the Liberty had), it maybe needed to stay competitive in the market.

Don't count the X out just yet.
