CAI Ideas

So, I am looking to invest some money into a good CAI (Cold Air Intake), somewhere in the range of $300 or below. Any suggestions as to what brand would be the best option? More HP is the main key here, along with better MPG's. So post up some options and opinions! :hmmm:

Volant is going to be the best for your money on a 2nd gen. I have heard that the K&N sucks and the Nismo is overpriced.

if it were me, I'd jump on that nismo one on CL in a heartbeat...in fact, if I had the funds, I'd do so ninja style right now... ;)

the biggest and best reason to go nismo, is that if something goes south, the dealership has to diagnose and can't say "ohhhh it's because you installed aftermarket parts" because it's nismo parts, the fact that they're nismo parts and it says they're intended for offroad usage just means that if something REALLY goes bad, they can refuse to repair under warranty, BUT, they'll do that under any third party parts, which they think caused the problem.

The dealership has to have some sort of proof that the aftermarket parts have caused the problem. Questions like this pop up all the time over on tnx about will it void my warranty. I'll see if I can get the guy from courtesy Nissan over here he got all kinda of useful information.

I've had that discussion with 3 different service managers. It boils down to a simple point, if they refuse it, YOU have to fight to prove that it wasn't the aftermarket parts that caused the problem. Just as Kelly had the burden of proof in proving it wasn't her lack of maintenance that had the engine problems. It's not fair but it's he way it goes.

Take a copy of the Magnusin-Moss Act with you the dealership if you think they're going to try to pull on you. May still be an uphill battle...

And I say Volant for the intake as it's one of the only true cool-air intakes out on the market. The rest are just short ram intakes.

Ok I'm reviving this thread in the pursuit of knowledge. No more arguments about dealership crap. If you've got a Volant, what kind of mileage increase did you see if any? Power increase? Are there other benefits?

I recently installed a NISMO CAI this past weekend and can't say I've noticed any MPG gains, but I do feel like I've got a little more power.

So I've done a little reading and noticed mpg gains up to 2mpg have been seen in some vehicles and hp gains are modest.

Does anyone here have a personal opinion on the matter?

Theoretically it would yield a small gain in mpg so I would believe it. I wouldn't expect a 2 mpg but rather expect none and hope for a 2+ mpg gain.

I would say the MPG gains are absolutely related to driver input....if you know what i mean. I think i gained about 1 mpg when i installed The Volant into the 04 SC. I gained 2 mpg when I installed a Volant in The wife's Tahoe. If your better half needs a little extra push, I can give you a limited time offer....or "sale" on an intake...At least thats how My wife gets by when she buys something I don't want her to buy..:D
PM me! ;) I would love to help Mac!

I did notice on my gen 1 a instant 1 mpg more.. After I installed the volant.
The best thing I hAve used is the ultragauge. I've went from avg in the 13s to the 15s by just watching how I use the throttle...

Anyone have an afe intake? I've read a few really good reviews on them... Looking to put something on my 2011 pathfinder... I was considering volant but I'm a bit confused on what filter to use... I've heard the power core throws a code and the oiled filter clogs the maf

Oiled filters clogging the MAF is a longstanding load of BS. K&N did a writeup on it.

That's kinda what I thought, I have a oiled filter on my gen 1 and it's fine.... Just didn't know if the 4.0 was more sensitive... I've found mixed things about it
