Car and Driver confirms *with engineers from Nissan* that the Xterra will live on.

I know it's been said that sometimes these sites information is no better than information found on forums, but it's just more confirmation!

With the introduction of the new, car-based Nissan Pathfinder, fans of its Xterra sibling don’t need to worry that it, too, will morph into a soft crossover. Engineers for the company have confirmed that the Xterra will remain a body-on-frame truck for many years.

When the Xterra launched for 2000, it was Nissan’s entry-level ute, with the company intending to keep a fully loaded model’s price below the Pathfinder’s starting point. Since then, the Xterra’s price and features have increased, but the Frontier-based SUV has retained a rugged, truckish image and the off-road capability that go with them. Shoppers who want raised seating and five doors but not the abuse of a truck can now buy a Rogue—and they do in droves. We imagine that while a small number of hard-core off-roaders (and people who are hard-core about looking like they go off-roading) will be disappointed that the Pathfinder is no longer ready to tackle exotic locales, the Xterra should meet their needs just fine.

It's car and driver.. Even though I have. Been told at the plant stuff.. Car and driver is hardly a source for info on this... But it's a good sign of things I have been posting

That's exactly what I thought. I trust you're inside info over C/D anyways. It's much more personal, and why would you make anything up. You don't stand to benefit from it, but C/D would definitely stand to at least create buzz for their site and magazine by fabricating information. To me this was just another sign that the Xterra will be around and maybe it will silence some of the doubters.

Hopefully with all the stuff you guys and everyone else have been doing with things like nXm and GONE people will start to realize the offroad capabilities of the Xterra. It would be awesome if more people could/would realize a Jeep isn't the only option for having fun in the woods.

Ive posted on this before.. I think C/D is a hair off.. Ive been told 2014 for the Titan.. as a 2015.. and 2015 for the Frontier / Maybe Xterra.. Trust me.. I bugged the Nissan higher ups every time I seen them ;) about the future of the Xterra. Last talk I had with a engineer said Nissan was very iffy on the Xterra... Either way all the trucks are moving to Canton this summer.. end of August.
Nissan Smyrna will still be stamping the Frontier and Xterra.. then ship the parts for Canton to build.. This is good and bad... Canton has a very bad reputation in the quality area. From what I was told by Nissan people the work force is some what lazy in MS. They like to work for a few months at a time.. and quit..

Oh and when I read one of the car mags said that the Xterra would live on I asked this engineer about it.. He giggled.. said those mags never know anything..

Either way.. talk in a national mag is good for the Xterra...
