Amplifier mounting

So I'm trying to up the ante on my audio system. To those that have aftermarket amps, where did you mount them? I'm thinking where the toolkit is under the carpet since none of that stuff is useful anymore. But I'm not 100% sure about the space/heat issues. I'm not going bonkers. Just a single 5-channel amp to drive 4 speakers and a single sub. I don't have the Rockford Fosgate system so there are no external amps at current. The speakers are currently being run off of my aftermarket head unit. Ideas?

Also, if anybody has the factory radio mounting brackets and wants to sell them, let me know. I was a moron and tossed mine when I put a single DIN radio in and now I'm going to swap it for a double DIN nav unit.

I still have the stock mounting bracket, but it would be two more weeks til I could ship it out.

Most of my Audiophile buddies like to mount them under their rear seats or in the rear panels provided that there is room. In other words, I don't know if I would be worried about it getting too hot in the small tool cutout in the rear.

in the couple i've done for buddies and mine, my first x i dropped underneath my passenger seat. never had an over heat issue and it gets over 110 here in the summers. another one we did was were the right rear panel is in your cargo area we just took that off and placed it there. the speaker wires were just ran threw a small hole cut and directly to the sub.

I have both of mine mounted on the sub box I've seen other ppl mount them to the back of the back seat and it looks pretty good. Not very functional if you put down your rear seats very often though.

Edit: I see you don't have the RF package so yours will be different but there is a lot of room behind those panels

I mounted mine to the back of my sub box. I am not worried about it shaking the amp ( I ran 2 kicker L5 12's on a 2000 watt monoblock amp without any issues all and this system was responsible for shaking my headliner loose, ruining the fuel pump and many a headache). I like this because I can quickly disconnect the sub and amp, making more room for storage, I then just tuck the wires away and you would never know I had a system in the truck.

So you are missing one of the 6x9s in the back? I was actually thinking about purchasing the factory sub enclosure replacing the sub and speaker and amping the whole thing.

What do you want for the brackets? Drop me a PM. I'm not concerned about the time. I'm at least a few weeks out from buying all the important pieces.

I'd like to mount the amp somewhere discrete. I'll have to see if the 5-channel amp I'm looking at will fit under the passenger seat.

Mine are under the seats. Works if your tall. Otherwise can't adjust them forward. I saw someone mount them on the headliner above the rear cargo area. Looking back I may have went that route. No fear of water damage when wheeling. Can still adjust my seats and still out sight from the windows.

Bought an X
I got a pretty big amp and on my first X it didn't have the RF system. I was able to squeeze it under the passenger seat. But it was getting in the way to adjust the seat. I tried getting the amp out and it was stuck. I had to remove the seat to get it out. I've also thought of mounting mine on the ceiling in the back. I have a 2nd gen and I know some people mount them in the extra lower storage area but I don't want water or mud gettin in there. I have always mounted my amps to the speaker box and have had some pretty loud systems. Never had a problem with the amp being vibrated.

Well that was fortuitous. I found a guy on eBay selling the factory sub enclosure and trim panel. Got a reasonable deal. So those are en route. I think the trim panel is lighter than mine currently, so I may paint to match, but overall it's a step in a direction. If the right one it remains to be seen. Heh
