AC question.

Hey guys, I'm having a little problem with my AC coming on when I press the button. Sometimes when I press the switch the AC will come on for a few seconds to a minuet, then shut off and come back on many minuets later or not at all. It may work fine the whole time I'm driving one day and not another. I've check the low side pressure in which all is fine. I don't have a way as of yet to check the high side. This seem like a electrical problem to though. Have any of you had this problem or know of a problem like this the Xterra's? To add, recently the lights behind the climate controls will not come on unless I tap on it and they'll light up. I pulled the center dash out and checked the plugs and all were snug. Thanks in advance.

Check the compressor clutch. Turn the AC to max cold, full tilt. The front of the compressor should start spinning. If it isn't, then you have a bad clutch. I had mine go out a couple of summers ago.

I checked the power going to the clutch when the AC switch is on and there is no power. That rules out the clutch. I'm starting to suspect the Thermal control amplifier. Some of the symptoms others have had are the same as mine. I'll post if that indeed is the problem.

I had this problem until I fixed it... And then my AC leaked. I'd replace the part. It's not too expensive nor difficult to do.
