the ABS light has nothing to do with the pads. You more likely than not have either a short in the ABS line or you have a sensor flaking out.

You can pull the sensors out of the hubs and take a look to see if they look ok. Water can get past the O-ring and corrode the sensor. of there could be chafing on the wires that are tripping them.

What the ABS system looks for is a steady supply of impulses from the sensors, the light gets tripped when that stream is interuped from one or more of the wheels. The computer turns off the light when it seen that stream of impulses as it is supposed to.

So you have to fix what is broken to turn off the light.

Questions for a Nissan Tech or some who knows...

ABS - Does it effect braking in any way other than a "panic stop" where the tires lock?
If there is no ABS (meaning a disconnected sensor) the brakes will still function as normal. IS this correct?

UPDATE: Incase anyone finds/reads this... not having the ABS sensors connected has no effect on the brakeing system. The brakes work fine.

Correct. When the ABS light is on only the abs is comprimised. Not the braking system. The braking system functions completly normal. It just lacks the ABS modulation.

Hmm maybe I am incorrect then. Sounds strange but I brought my X up to 45mph in my garage on jack stands and tried to set the cruise one time. But, it would not set. I assumed it was because the vehicle speed sensors read off the front wheels which were not spinning. Possibly it wasn't enough load. Yeah maybe they are not tied in like I thought.

Maybe it needs to see a speed from all four sensors to let the cruise kick in? My rears failed last year and the cruise still worked.
