Gotcha. Rolling down the highway I've got a dead zone of about 2inches I can move the wheel and it not move the tires. This causes bump steer to be more of a problem than I'd like it to.

Sounds like you need some new steering gear. Maybe even a box. You should check it while parked and see if those two inches actually move the pitman arm.
