Sounds exactly like what i did when i bought a shiat box for a certain set of nismosThat's what I'm saying. Take the wheels, scrap the rest. The wheels now cost less than $300.

I worked with a guy that raced his '66 Stang in TransAm Class A sedan, during '68-70 time period. Shelby would show up with their cars, along with all the non-sponsored guys like us. When it came time for the nitty gritty racing... you would have thought that we were part of their team. It was all hands on deck to make sure that all the Ford products ran.The father of the moosestang himself View attachment 33246

Naturally it was the same with the Penske team and GM cars.
Those were some fun days, rubbing elbows with some top name drivers and meeting people like Carroll Shelby and James Garner and others who just loved auto racing.

Had to change due to NFS, and greenies, who blamed the RR for starting fires, and stinking up the area (air pollution).View attachment 33261
Kind of odd to think that after 140 years their done running the locomotives on coal (switching to oil) this is fresh from the last coal fired runView attachment 33262

I used to ride that train to work from Silverton down to elk creek in the 1970’s. Fireman told me they shoveled 4 tons of coal on the way up the canyon. He was a college kid like me. Decided that wandering around in the wilderness was a better summer job than working the train! Where are you staying tonight? Must be a ton of snow up in SilvertonThey kinda did start that fire
Also oil is a lot cheaper and easier on crews
Gallup, change the oil in the car and drive home. Didn’t make it to silverton due to time constraints but Durango was a beautiful sunny place. Recent pics of silverton area indicate lots of snow but Highway and paved areas openI used to ride that train to work from Silverton down to elk creek in the 1970’s.
