Alright, so the reason for this bed mod is for the upcoming Bonaroo Music Festival in early June. If you don't know what the 'Roo is, its 60 bands, 4 days, 3 nights, and a whole lot of fun. ( and the greatest band that has ever arisen on this Earth, Mumford and Sons.)
Now, a few of my buddies and I are going to the 'Roo. Which means I have a little more than two months to make Ivan a very comfortable camping truck. My first mod was this bed.
Luckily, my grandmother got this foam bed insert thingy (brand new) and then complained about it being too soft. So, being the gentleman I am, I tossed her a twenty dollar bill, took the foam, and made a beeline for the door before she could change her mind.
This may be the simplest mod I've done, so I wont get into too much of details on how to do this mod.
1. Acquire a foam bed insert. Doesn't matter how thick, (mine was four inches and may be too much) but thin enough to be rolled up and stored efficiently.
2. Lay down your back seats, and throw the foam bed on top of them.
3. Mark where the wheel wells are, and how tall it is (I had to cut mine about 4 inches from the top as it was too long)
4. Get a sharp utensil (knife, scissors, saw, katana, chainsaw etc.)
5. Cut the foam away from the wheel well (I was heavy on the cutting, as I wanted room for drinks/cell phones/ anything else.)
6. Lay down on the finished product.
Now, you have a few choices of how you want to store this bed. I folded mine in half hot dog style, and then rolled it up like that. You can throw it in the cargo area like any normal person. Unfortunately, I have 2 12 inch subs, so It will NOT fit in the cargo area. Luckily for me though, my dad had a spare sleeping bag bag from his army days, and offered it up to me with a smile saying "Hey, its waterproof too."
SOON as I heard it was proof of the water, I knew it was going on my roof. BAM BAM BOOM BAM POW.
