I have only heard of one “caged” Xterra. It was a 1st Gen out in Colorado. I’ve seen pictures of it but never seen one in person.
“What's the next logical step when you know you're going to roll?”
Before you go, prepare.
I never wheel alone. Two trucks minimum, three or more is better.
Check your battery, spare tire, Hi-Lift, tools, recovery gear, anything that may start flying around needs to be strapped or bolted down securely.
If you feel yourself starting to get “tippy” you can stop and get help; a strap on your sliders or window pillar, string your winch line, maybe a couple of large friends on the sliders adding a little ballast might be enough. I’ve saved myself a few times by turning into the “fall”, tapping the gas and then driving out of trouble or asking for help.
I’ve never been completely upside down but have been on my side twice. Make yourself small. Ya can’t stop your truck rolling with your arms so keep them and the rest of yourself inside the truck, toward the center of the vehicle.
If you go over wait until you stop moving and turn your truck off. Before ya get out make sure the thing is stable. Hopefully your trail buddies have already come a running to help, ask them if its safe. Stay seat belted until you are sure. If the truck isn’t on fire or spilling gasoline take your time getting out. Your brain is going to be a bit f’d so remember “slow is smooth, smooth is fast”.
After you’re out and safe then figure out how to upright your truck.
