First, thanks for all the help with my total n00b knowledge of camping gear. I'm still kind of stock piling some equipment, and adding to my list of things that I need.
Local ordinance on our section of the beach that we camp at let's you build a camp fire as long as it is contained within a 3 foot diameter "fire container". When I have done basic camping at other local parks...it is the kind of camping where they have pre-made camp lots, a picnic table and a fire ring already for you.
Here, you have to bring your own. This makes it annoying. Any ideas for a creative way to make a semi-portable fire container that can be packed up and taken with you at the end of your stay? No rocks and boulders on the beach, so can't make a natural one. I could just buy a metal bucket, but of course, that is bulky to pack.
Last time my buddies and I camped on the beach, we used a portable charcoal grill after we were done cooking. We just popped a couple of logs in the grill, opened the bottom vents, and took the grate out. The fire did get so hot though...the grill turned bright red hot. Also, my personal camping grill is a gas grill, so it's not really an option.
Any creative ideas? They are not specific as to what a "fire container" is defined as...
I'm thinking something like this, but smaller, and metal would work if I could find one:
