So.. I've had a love affair with the square bodies since the early 80's as a kid. Dad had a few and I've always wanted one of my own. I paid too much, it needs more work than I can probably handle, it hasn't run in 8 or 10yrs, it's leaking from 3 diff spots, has a pretty big hole in the bed floor like a driveshaft blew thru it or something, has rust-thru in a few spots, 3 of 4 qtr panels need work, I'll probably need a pass. door shell and already wishing I had a diff model 350sbc in it.

But.. I'm in love.

I just received my Advance Auto shipment of plugs, wires, dist cap/rotor, fuel air & oil filters and some conv oil for first flush. Heading to work to start wrenching this morning. 20200822_113531.jpg 20200822_113732.jpg 20200822_113721.jpg 20200822_113601.jpg 20200822_113610.jpg 20200822_115436.jpg 20200822_115403.jpg 20200822_115414.jpg

I think you came out ok on this thing. The nice thing about the SBC is that it's pretty universal. You can easily make some better power with just a few changes.

As far as rust goes, let's see some pictures?

I'll get more today. I have to keep it at work but that's where my compressor and air tools are anyway. I'm wondering how tough it'll be to drop the left tank (I think that's the one it's on but I don't even know how to switch the tanks) it shows an 1/8th of a tank or less so I want to dump it and make sure it's clean..

While I'm sitting in the a/c letting my sweat dry a bit and adding water to the gut, I figured I'd post my rust issues for @TerryD to advise me on..

Passenger door, interior bottom lip rusting
20200830_111334.jpg passenger cab corner. Looks bad but it isn't thru, the inside is dirty but smooth

That's not bad rust on one of these at all. Look at Deuling's K5 build. He had to replace a rusted out WINDSHIELD FRAME!

Anyways, that rust doesn't look bad. They make those panels and they're readily available. Those doors can be cleaned up with a brush wheel, zinc primer and some paint. That one spot on the door with the dent is a crack it looks like.

Look up Chief Brody's Jaws theme build, there's a lot of info in there on body work. Ryoken basically taught a correspondence course in body work for that build. His "Mutt" build is pretty incredible too!

Cool, I fell asleep reading Ryokens rust and repair 101 or something along those lines. Good info, I subbed to come back when I'm at that step. I don't think I want to restore it just remove and stop the rust that's here, then just build it to be tough and reliable.. who knows,

I got some rims and 50% life, 35" Wrangler MTs off OfferUp and CL.. 300 all in. Now I'm torn on the beSt route to source what emissions equipment I'll need to get it road worthy in CO.. it's been stripped of the emissions and I'm about to dig into the best way to go about getting it legal. I think if collector or classic I'll still have to smog every two years. I also see an exception that if you spend 700$ or more after a failed test that you could qualify for an exemption but for how long, I don't know.. There's snow on the ground and I have no place to tinker with it but in an open lot at work..
