Finally got another milestone complete on the truck. Steering and track bar installed. Sure nice to get that complete but it took a few late nights or early mornings till 2am to get it all figured out. The upper and lower track bar mounts I ordered from Ballistic fabrication. The top one I used most of it but the bottom one had to get modified a lot to make it work and get all the angles right. The painting of the parts will come later when it warms up. Just need to weld the other side of the axle truss. All complete with 1 ton moog TRE's, 1.25" DOM drag and tie rods and 1.5" track bar with the smaller johnny joint at the top side of the track bar.

Yellowx16 the design is really a Y or T steering 1 ton setup. Because you have a cherokee it's even easier to do it on your truck. Ruff stuff specialties sell the compete kit. I did mine from scratch. The picture also portrays alot of weird angles and some think it will not work but I had help from a local 4x4 shop. What kind of details did you want?

thanks! Just wondering where you sourced your parts. I don't trust my welding ability enough for things like steering, so I'd rather not have to weld in bungs to make my own. From the pics it doesn't look like you had to do thT, so just wondering what the basic parts list was for it all. Feel free to PM me so I don't clog your build thread haha.

This weekend I am going to move the tie rod above the knuckles and lengthen the track bar, which means moving the mounts. After some discussion it appears the track bar is too short. The track bar and draglink are parallel vertically but I want to bring them more parallel horizontally. The flex will be much better.

I think I missed the post button, I was going to ask if you were worried about bump steer with your track bar being a lot shorter, you ever think about running it behind the axle? And awesome build, I thought there was some cool ideas out there and you blew my mind. Been watching from the start.

I removed the lower track bar mount, made a new one which will get installed tonight. The upper Mount will change also. In the end I will be able to get about 6 in or more extra length on the track bar. Tried to go over the knuckle steering won't work because tie rod his lower coil mounts.

Finally revised the track bar mount. Brought it down as far as it will go and pushed the upper track bar outward closer to the coils and the lower one closer to the lower coil mount on the axle. Gained about 3" total length increase. Should be a lot better. Enough of that, time to go to LA for holidays. Heh SteveO I might try and make a visit to see you. Love to see the work you do.

One of the things that I had to fix on the truck and that was a large crack and rust spot in front of the air conditioning at the front of the truck. I guess I hit that lower part few years ago and it got to a point where it kept getting rusted out. Removed the front grill all the rust and filled it in with new metal. One last thing to fix.

Finally got the new bumper in. Ordered it from Summit Racing. http://www.summitracing.com/dom/parts/pmt-51-0030/overview/ Took about 3-4 weeks to come but well worth the wait. Bumper is built like a tank, nice and strong, with gussets on the stinger and has all the holes and mount for a winch. Cost $200, $45 shipping. it says no winch mount but in fact it does.

Have set it up supported by a saw horse and some blocks and it actually will look very sharp. It will be one of the last things to get put on.

Finally got Igor into the sun after 10 months of being stuck in the garage. Sure felt awesome driving it out. Now I can do body work outside. Brakes are at about 80%, having a problem with them. This will be on another post.

Just noticed the different lug patterns.. How is rotating tires going to work? or are you not going to bother?

Glad to see you made it out of the garage though.

Its even cooler when you stand beside it. Never thought I would have to use a foot stool just to look into the engine area. Because the brakes are not working on the best I have to move it inside and outside of the garage with the e brake on slightly. Very sketchy trying to drive it back in without the best brakes. Its been fun. More pics to come.

I even have to use a step stool working on mine. Mainly because of the bumper. And I'm short. haha. I guess I don't really HAVE to but it makes it much easier!

looks great! nice to see it finally outside. I may have missed it but what are the details on your steering setup? that's a d30 from a cherokee/wrangler right?

The axle is a HP dana 30 from a 87 Cherokee. Axles have been replaced with newer beefier solid straight through axles from a newer Cherokee. The newer axles had stronger CV's. The steering is a 1 ton setup, moog joints and DOM pipe. No suspension or steering was premade and shipped from a company. It all custom built.

cool, thanks for the info, I assume you had to team the knuckles for the 1 ton tre's right?

Was able to get outside and work on the truck for about 7 hrs and get a lot done. One of the large milestones for myself was trying to get the back all sanded, painted and complete. Finally got it done, worked out very well. Just need to hook up he lights, put on the tail gate, finish the bed and put on the front shocks plus a few little things. Other than that it should be on the road very shortly. Might take it out for a drive in the neighborhood streets tonight. Maybe.

The only things I have to do are: Dif breather lines, front bumper, complete back bed, bolt on tail gate, hookup tail lights, install front shocks, bolt on top roof racks(stock ones, with minor mods), rock sliders and wheel alignment. Front driveshaft will not go on until I drive it in 4wd and see if the transfer case is shot. Suspect that it might be shot, don't know right now. That's what took the truck off the road last fall. I am hoping it was the stock outer hubs.
