Hey guys and Gals,

I wanted to tell you my plans for XN...

Xterra Nation is truly a forum by the people, for the people. When I was apart of ClubXterra I had a great time learning about my Gen 1 Xterra. It was a great place to learn and grow. But like many of you have noticed, AD's are EVERYWHERE! Even when I paid for less Ad's.. I still had them everywhere. No big deal right? So I did my thing and was lucky enough to become a Moderator for them. I gave them many many hours and never asked for anything. Then when I decided to do the coming home party also known as nXm, One of the Admins thought this would be a great chance to get the 2 big forums involved. I have to say Jason aka (Muzikman) the owner of TheXterra.org jumped right in.. Heck the guy really didn't know me but he was ready to give back to the Xterra community.
After that we thought CX would jump right in. They had to right? I mean it was being developed on their forum. NOPE we could not even get a return email about any type of donation. Its not like we asked for any set price.. Just help us.. Well I loved that site so much I still added them to the list of sponsors with out them giving anything. In the end they were mentioned in a major off road publication and did nothing to earn it. Big props to Jason for giving us a chance and really earning that publication listing. Things like that are why the Xterra.org became the site it is today.

Next issue,
After one of the Top Admins had a password issue pop up no one could seem to get the owners to fix it. I mean this went on for over a month.. Its like the owners of that site could care less as long as they had a place to post up Ad's and make a few dollars.. This started me thinking about my site. Even if it was a thought...

So most of you know I run a small little outfit called B&M Lightbars. Around the same time I decided that Id like to become a official site sponsor. I emailed that big forum and sure enough.. 20 minutes later I had a packet in my email with what it would take. This struck me very funny because I had been emailing the same people about how to get our Admin his password changed and Id get nothing. After reading what it would cost to become a sponsor with a banner I was very embarrassed to say I was a active member there. This big auto form listed all of their sites and ranked them by tiers. 4 to be exact! With over 200 sites under one banner guess where my favorite club ranked? 188 or so.. This hurt.. How could my beloved site be so low on the list? Well we all know the Xterra isnt a Jeep.. but come on.. The Honda element forum was ranked higher? Heck Honda killed it like a year ago.. Then I look at the price to do business with these cats.. ITs in the hundreds of dollars a year.. This got me to look at that forum.. It was starting to look old and out dated.. Heck the Gen 2 crowd didnt want any part of it.. Why? When you A - B both of the 2 big boys it was easy to see.. TheNewX was fresh and clean.. So my idea's started to flow.. All I needed was a partner in crime... Rattfink..

Now to the plans..

When me and Rattfink put pen to paper we had one major issue. How do you blend both generations of Xterra's into one site? I mean look at Jeep forums.. They seem to have any year on the forums with little issues.. So if a Jeep guy can do it.. We know Xterra men can. :)

To me the Mod's are great.. I love looking at a beef cake Gen 2 all Shrocked out as well as the un-Mod'ed Gen 1 .. I just love these goofy little SUV's. But When Nissan brought out the Xterra what was the goal? Everything you need.. Nothing you dont.. How does one use the X? Its a lifestyle.. My Xterra will take me on a trip as well as to the lake.. I use my Xterra to camp.. as well as the grocery hauler. Where does your Xterra take you and how? That is why this site was formed. It really wasnt to spurn the other sites or to get back at CX for something.. ME and Johann had a idea we wanted to try.

Since we are a indy site..

Xterra Nation is not dependent on BIG sponsors to fuel us.. Im not paying some guy in a room to run 50 sites or keep its profits flowing.. This is small time.. its just the people that love these silly SUV's.

Does XN need money to stay alive?
It does.. yet.. It doesnt..

I really try to give as much money back as I can.. Sure we had a lot of start up cost.. I forked out a lot of money to do this.. I will not lie..
But if I never had one more member give back to the site, XN would live on.. I love this community as does Ratt, and would do anything to keep it alive.. It helps to fuel the fun contest we do but other than that.. We are good.. as of right now (5/12)

Do you make anything off of XN?
Yes.. I do make a little off this forum. But its pennies.. As of right now XN paid for.. All my start up costs have been returned to me. SO thats why your seeing more contest..
Im trying to find ways to give back to the Xterra community. Things like goneMOAB, nXm.. and other events have been sponsored with fund I have collected from all of you.
We may not be big.. But we will help do what we can.

Can I have a say?
Sure.. If you see a event or group in need of help let me know.. We do not always run in the green but if we have it.. XN will try and help.

Will XN ever be sold to a larger company?
Nope.. XN will remain indy for its life.. If the time comes for me to move on I will let the site move on to a member or members.. An official notice would be posted.

My goal is for everyone to feel welcomed on XN. Even the people that do not care for me.
This site is larger than me or you.. Its a community and together we can keep it going..

My 2 cents worth...

First and formost... Thank you. Thanks to you and Mr. Fink for seeing and responding to a need that not many are willing to take that first step. I too have seen the Jeep community come together regardless of "gen" and make it work. I just didn't understand why that wasn't happening in the "X" community. I too became a lifetime member of CX and was not pleased with the results. I do still go back now and then but have experienced longer and longer load times. Now, it's simply not worth it.

XN has helped me out in so many ways so much so I've lost count. The Mods here are helpful and DO respond to PMs. Trust me folks I send enough buggin da hell out of them with questions...lol. But they have answered every one of them regardless. B&M attempted to make a special bar for me but my Eagle's were to large. The fact that he tried told me all I needed to know. Mr. Fink even assisted me with sponsorship information... and Mr. Fink, I will be back in touch on that matter.

I've been a member of several Xterra sites some of you XN members I know from them. Many sites are no more due to various reasons, I hope XN stays a long long time because I'm here for the long haul...like it or not my membership payment is in the mail as well as my NXM registration.. If there is anything you or Mr. Fink need that you feel I might be able to assist you in... please contact me and I will do my best to assist. That goes to any Mod or member. Except cash dollars... Mrs TKD controls that. lol

Good lookin out to the braintrusts of NX...JOB WELL DONE.

I see this thread coming from the lapse of what is going on over at TNX. It's nice to see what you have planned and where it's going. As I know you from clubxterra.org and so forth. Just keep it up and stay frosty my friends.

I'm a big believer in what is going on over here. Drb said pretty much all that needed to be said so I'll leave it at that. Let's keep it going, x peeps!

Developing an Xterra site dedicated to all gens and much more has been a challenge and seeing these responses makes all the hard work behind the scenes very much appreciated.

We are here because we love X's and what we can do to them and with them... period.

We do not like ads or anyone but an Xer owning the site. The only "ads" you will see, are the ones who sponsor the site.

I have much respect for Muzikman. The dude broke away from CX to make his own Xterra site owned by him, an Xterra owner.

Love TNX and it was the only one I stayed with.
Great site and some good people there, and the best information base ever! Jason and some of the mods did an outstanding job and I thank them for their contribution.
My X and my knowledge wouldn't be anywhere close without them.

Hate to see it go commercial, but that's the way it is. We'll see how it shakes out.

This place is more like tnx used to be several years ago, and I really enjoy the friendly style. Keep it that way!

And life goes on....

Just to keep the record straight, Jason did not start TNX. Dan did.

Some of the guys that were around from the begining probably know the full story, but I have a few bits and pieces. When I joined TNX back in 2007, Dan was still the head honcho, and he ran a phenominal site. He essentially founded the site, but at some point it went beyond what he either could or wanted to deal with so he bowed out. Seems like Jason has been involved with admining with Dan for a looong time, and when Dan decided to let go, Jason stepped in and took TNX to the next level. I'm sure others can fill in the gaps or correct my version, LOL.

Dan started theNewX in Jan of 2006 as a place to help people with the second gen X. XOC was the big forum then and most of the users were first gens. It was really hard and confusing trying to figure out what mods were for the first gen and which were for the second gen. You also had first gen owners giving second gen owners advice that was 100% incorrect (as you know, there are really no interchangeable parts between the first and second gens).

Dan started the forum on a small hosting site running PHPBB. Someone he knew setup the software for him. Shortly after starting the site, he got out of the military and started driving truck. He would be gone for days if not weeks. That's when he gave myself and Jeff (Cornick) admin access. The both of us helped maintain the site with direction from Dan. The less and less Dan was around the more difficult it was to do certain things. That's when Jeff and I decided to offer to buy the site from Dan. I don't remember exactly when we bought it (late 2007/early 2008 I think). That's when it was converted over to vbulletin and most of the features added. Around this time is also when we started supporting memberships, giveaways and supporting vendors.

In mid 2009 it was decided to try and incorporate in the first gen users in some way. We really did not want to bring them in to theNewX as we felt there would be the same problems as XOC. What we deiced to do was start a second forum specifically for first gen users (theXterra.org). The original plan was to host both sites under the theXterra domain, but still keep the separate. However, the first gen site never got off the ground. Because of this and the fact that if we would move theNewX to the theXterra domain we would loose our search engine rankings, the whole idea never actually happened.

Jeff sold his Xterra an has not been around much over the last 2+ years.

That is the history of TheNewX in a nutshell.

Thanks for the info...Being a member of all the sites mentioned above, I've always wondered what happened and how.

BUT NOW...we are all Nationers under 1 Xbrella! as the X keeps rolling along... after a mod or 2. :lols:

Fortunately I wasn't a part of the drama over there but I am glad I am a part of the nation. I was getting tired of the same thing over and over again on CX. Thank you Dave & Johann for putting this site together. You have done an awesome job and I'm proud to be a part of it!
