Xterra is Hesitating

I don't know if this is a new issue or a old one. Believe it or not between two old cars my repair list is a bit too long. Still, maybe someone will have an idea.

Xterra has been hard to start lately. This morning I tried to start it twice. It cranked but wouldn't ignite. Alright, **** it, I took the car to class instead. Came back expecting to jump it and turns out it works just fine. Turned over like nothing. However, later today it started to hesitate. Like I'd press the accelerator and it'd feel weak, like it didn't kick in right away, and once or twice I almost thought it was going to get so weak it would stall on the road.

Two things are broken that I know of. One of the cats is busted. I don't have the time or money to fix it (although I have the part). It's bank 2. I don't think the cat would be the issue, at least in this case. Someone told me a bit back that my ECM was busted. That could do it but I'm not really sure either. I have no clue how to fix that if it is busted.

I'm about to buy new spark plugs, wires, and an air filter because it's about time to change them anyway. The truck is at 153K miles now.

Any ideas?

I would check battery connections.

The driving part sounds like it could be an ECM issue. Have you had the ECM relay recall done?

Terminals are fine. I keep them clean. Nissan screwed me on the recall - said it doesn't apply to me. Pretty sure it does since mines a 2006 but I guess they checked it against their database or something.

Could be the ECM, could be a few other things...check simply things like air filter, tubes and lines too.
With a 2006, pretty sure you also have the crappy IPDM, may want to replace that as a preventative measure. IIRC you have the white one, and there have been 2 newer ones released since.

All of the recalls for our trucks have expiration dates.

I've got awesome connections with the Chesapeake Nissan dealer. Lemme call the shop manager tomorrow and run your issue by him.

I had to replace mine a week after I bought the truck. Thankfully it's a plug/play swap.

Cool, let me know if you find out anything. I've put it off once again but it's something I'll need to deal with eventually. It'll only get worse until it gets fixed.

Depending on the condition of the cats, it could generate a low power situation when driving. The truck has to breathe, and it exhales through the exhaust. The better question though is what caused the catalyst to go and has it since been fixed? Catalysts do not typically go on their own, especially on VQ40, so it sounds like you have another concern.
