I'm picking up an XD45 that I'm getting in trade for a '69 bug that I had a couple of hundred in.

I think it's all black, but I'd love to do something to the slide. I was thinking of some etching or something, but this looks pretty sweet. I'll have to check into this.

ya that guy does it for a starting fee of 50 bucks. i just can't decided on what color goes with od green. think im just going to send him my slide and be like. get creative charge me later lol. he is a gunsmith too so i was thinking of getting night sites to have him put them on also.

Expect a fee of around 100 to install the trijicon's and I'm pretty sure you must ship to trijicon for installation because of the radioactive nature of the materials of those sights...

I've installed 10 sets of Trijicon night sights on my Glock's by myself using a Glock sight pusher. You don't have to ship them to anyone to get them installed. The Tritium in these sights is harmless.

From Trijicons website

[h=3]What is Tritium?[/h] [h=3]Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen. It is an odorless, tasteless, colorless gas that reacts with the human body in the same manner as natural hydrogen. Beta rays from the tritium hit phosphors to create the glow you see. Tritium has a half-life of 12.5 years, which means that in that time the lamp will be half as bright as it originally was.[/h]

[h=3]Is Tritium harmful?[/h] [h=3]According to documentation by health physicists in statements on file at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), it would take the simultaneous rupture of 10,000 of these small glass capsules in a small room 10 foot by 10 foot to potentially constitute a radiation health hazard. For this reason, customers need not be concerned about the potential risk of the night sight system. Furthermore, our front sight is 0.018 curies and the two rear sight dots are 0.018 curies each. A complete sighting system is 0.054 curies. This is less than many tritium watches, which have up to 0.200 curies or roughly four times as much radioactivity. In addition, the weapon is not as close to the body, and in less constant use than a watch.[/h]

Glock != XD

The rear sight is pinned in some manner. You'll end up destroying the sight from what I read on xdtalk

I have no doubt it sucks to change XD sights as they seem to be very hard to remove the stock sights from every thing I have read as well. My comment was in response to your contention that the sights had to be installed by Trijicon due to the radioactive nature of the Tritium vials which is patently false.

i've read that any gunsmith can install them. the only thing is they ship 8 weeks later lol. 8 weeks for sites is a damn long time. so i'll have to mess around with the stock ones for now.

What I'd read about them was that they had to be installed on xd/xdm's by the mfgr, due to the firearm's design and the radioactivity of the materials. The radioactivity may not matter, and the requirement to ship to trijicon may be for warranty reasons or not at all, I'm just saying that's what I'd read @ xdtalk...

I would assume that any decent gunsmith should be able to do it, but, my local gander mountain store (who has certified gunsmiths) and the two other smaller shops that are staffed with a smith also refused to install them "for liability reasons"

so i'm sending my mags, and slide into james. i know the design i want, but my question is. what color you guys think goes with OD green the best? i was thinking coyote brown or something around that, i'm up for suggestions. it won't be to overwhelming just something to set it aside from others.

I have been loading ammo for my 9mm any time I can find components. Even loaded some with Magnum primers. Doesn't really fit well with this thread since I shoot an FN FNP9 instead of an XD though.
