Women can spend a lifetime around a man and never fully understand what we like.

For example, being alone.
Yes, as a man there are times in which its great to be alone.

Furthermore, a woman cannot believe that when were alone, we could be thinking about.......nothing.

In addition, a woman will never understand the satisfaction we gain from peeing off of something high.
Yes, if you show a dozen guys a cliff side away from public eyes, at least eleven of these guys will have urinated from it.
The 12th guy will be upset he emptied his bladder earlier.

What is it you enjoy which your lady probably dont understand.

Keep it clean :)

Going to the bar by myself. Going to movies by myself. She doesn't get it. That alone time is important.

I don't particularly care to go to a movie alone but it doesn't bother me. My wife doesn't like going alone though. Same with eating alone.

Something I do she really doesn't understand is Ham radio. Contesting or chasing DX are just beyond her comprehension but I get such a rush working a pileup on the air.

There are contests where you're just trying to make contacts. There's usually a simple exchange on the air in order to count it as a contact. Your Grid Square or state and class sometimes. It just depends on the contest but the rules are generally posted online somewhere.

Chasing DX is looking for stations outside your country (sometimes state if you're working 2m and up) and you're usually competing with many others calling at the same time and they call that a pileup. That's where you learn some technique like finding the rhythm of the receiving station. Are they taking the first or last callers? Are they slightly off frequency? It's a good bit of fun! I listened to a podcast where they likened it to the rush you get from playing a video game.

I'm hoping to do some more portable operation soon. I've got a buddy that's into the VHF/UHF contesting and does a lot of it from camp. But he's got a pretty nice stack he sets up off the back of his pickup. 3 element 6m beam, dual 10 element 2m beams and dual 440 beams but can't remember what they are.

1. I prefer to pee in my back yard. Wife doesn't get it, and finally gave up on trying to figure it out.
2. Casting bullets and loading my own ammo. She is finally coming around to it though, after I explained that I can buy .40 cal rounds for 40 cents each, or load my own for 4 cents each and I have more control over the consistency of my rounds.

Interesting topic. There have been numerous things my exes havent understood about me.

  • Why I spend so much time helping my mom
  • Why I am fiercely loyal to friends
  • Why I love dragging up old cars
  • Why I have bookshelves of books (screw an e-Reader)
  • Why I have several items I am very very sentimental about
  • Why I need alone time to recharge.

Mostly for me its the alone time they don't get. Just let me recharge, I'll be a better man for it.

My wife likes to read. I disappear into the BC bush, typically chasing steelhead, for a couple of weeks and she is very supportive.

She has no trouble with me cheating on her with salmon and trout. That sounds much funnier in French because prostitutes are referred to as 'Cod' the fish.

The main thing the gf doesn't understand why im so big on is my emergency preping though she understands it a bit more since we've gone without power for a few days in winter and lived fairly comfortably. Still had hot meals plenty of light and some warmth.

Im not one of those people that has a buried bunker and 10 years of food stored up but at any given time i can camp in my house for a few days and be comfortable.

The storms here in British Columbia often knock out the power, rarely more than a day, but longer can happen. With all the canoe-tripping and backpacking camping gear in the house, we could last for weeks and be just fine. We also have more than enough warm clothing to outlast several days of central heating loss in the dead of winter.

The wife hails from Abitibi in NW Quebec. Yes, that place where the Arctic iso-therms dip south. It can be -20C (-4F) or colder for days on end. I am referring to the daily maximum temperatures. She gets emergency preparedness.

Her father and other family members are keen moose hunters. Everybody knows what nature can throw at you.

Well the gf is from New Hampshire but cant stand the cold.....so she moved to South Carolina. When it snowed like 5 inches and knocked the power out she came to the southern boys house to weather out the snow storm....go figure. Ive made a solar generator (basically a battery pack thats charged by solar panels) so we had light and kept phones charged kerosene heaters to stay warm and lots of propane for cooking. I was in the scouts for a long time so when it comes to camping i have everything so really just cycling through canned goods is all i really do the rest of the year. Because of that snow storm i did get a small generator but we really dont lose power much.....hurricanes are a bigger threat here. Since that storm shes much more on board with it that she was before but still doesnt see why i go to the lengths i do.

A point about 5 inches of snow here......we normally only get a dusting thats gone by that evening.

Thumbs up for boy scouts. It may have para-military beginnings (objectionable to some but not me) and some scout masters have not behaved well (not cool) but man, I enjoyed myself and learned so much.

Starting in cub scouts, I learned how to tie knots and then self-taught myself to tie 30 knots in 30 minutes. That skill has come in handy all through my life. I bet many here are thankful that they are good with ropes and knots.

Well most of the MGTOW is nutty bullshiat, BUT a divorce, dating a couple crazies and loss of your shiat makes you think twice before saddling up again.

I'd love to find the right one that matches my jagged edges, but until I do, why force it or settle?

most of my relationships are from high school and a few years after so the only damage was hurt feelings. honestly some of it was my own damn fault when you get with someone who wants what i call an "instagram relationship", yeah sorry, miss me with that shiat. then there wasa few gamer/geek girls from highschool, i describe those relationships as a "Ferrari with a flood damage title". everything doesnt look to bad from far away, but then you actually get in there, holy shiat. then my early 20s roll around, i dont know about you guys, but i have to say people have a low piont in there personality and it has to be between the ages of 19 and 23. i was so tired of people starting convos with "so whats you major?" bitch im in tech school! now here i am nearly 27 working hard for me and me alone. i know some of you could joke that "oh Jim is single cuz he is one of those anime nerds and could be one of those incels on reddit". while the anime part is right the other is not. i blame my singleness entirely on myself. i have not been looking. ive had friends both male and female try to force me to meet someone and it never works out mostly cuz me and the other person are from 2 different backgrounds. so i here i come, mister bluecollar truck driver wrench turner in carhart pants and work boots. then here comes miss uppity city girl with her dads bmw and end up looking at my friend like wtf are you thinking? do you even know me? oh no i get it.... and yes this did happen once and it actually really pissed me off, shes fat and because im a little big apparently we are just made for eachother right? ive lost 70 pounds after that shiat.

i know someones out there, i just havnt found them yet. its honestly not the biggest deal in the world. but i do think it would be nice to have someone like that. but "truckers wives" in my generation are rare compared to the older ones.

also bonus points for goth gf.

ok rant over.

Bigjim.

When i was eighteen, there was a girl in my life that I wanted to marry.
Sadly, the words she shared with me didnt match what was in her own heart.
I was crushed when she let me know that she wanted to break up.

In my sadness, i couldn't see past my own self pity.
My uncle stopped in to visit me and sensed something was awry.
I explained my situation, and he listened intently.

In the end he said "You do realize there are things worse than being alone, don't you?
I was young, hurt and somewhat crushed.
"What could be worse than being alone", I asked in turn.

He looked at me solemnly and said " Having to spend your life with the wrong person."

As time has passed , I've learned how true his words were.

It hasnt been bad. Other than the need to russell up women on an as needed basis, I enjoy lots about it. I do miss certain things about being in a relationship, but lots I do not. Its not that I dont have options, Its just that I enjoy my life now.

Sharing $$ sux, it became the end of my marriage. Together 7 years married on the 5th year and had only one good year together after that..

I still have the first rifle I ever owned.
I'm fairly certain this was the only Christmas gift that my father picked out for me.
To be honest, some of the fondest memories of my youth included taking this rifle hunting with both my Father and Grandfather.

Surely its been fired thousands of times and been carried across every inch of woods that I could gain access on.
To look at it today, you will notice more than a few blemishes on the wood stock along with some thinning of the color on the barrel.

Nowadays, I rarely shoot it anymore.
I will take it out of the vault on occasion, clean any dust from it and oil it down once again.
I cannot help but to get sentimental as I hold it in my lap.

The wife will occasionally see me holding this old gun and let me know "If your not going to hunt with that old gun, why dont you sell it."

She would never understand, even if I tried to explain it to her
