Wiring Roof Top Lights

You can only have 4 lights on while driving on any road (legally speaking). So sometimes at dusk I just flip my 4 fogs up top on instead of just turning the corner markers on. Lately I have noticed if they are on for about 3 minutes they will turn off while the switch is turned on. Is this a short or is it draining my battery?

keeping in mind however, most states (if not all) require the lights be LESS than 42" above the road surface, so, roof lights are illegal on road. I have my 2 Hella 500's in the grill, I'll kick my lights to just the parking lights and use those instead on long roads after dark...I've got em aimed so that they don't peg oncoming drivers in the eyes at any point too so that's quite nice.

There are some better ways to run wires through a waterproof connection whether hidden in/on the roof or a firewall without compromising any seals or causing worry of turning a vehicle into a Roman candle but with one of the recent projects we're working on. The vehicle was draped in wire harnesses from one side of the truck to the other and needed to be cleaned up a lot.

We chose to simplify all of the relays and fuses in a contained unit that offers a 6-way switching panel (seen farther below) that has a single harness that we put through higher up on the firewall in a waterproof plug. If you were to modify that center console panel or maybe even the OHC in similar fashion you could easily dye the panel(s) back. It's a lot of extra work, and like I said most won't take the time but someone wanting to show off some talents or take that extra step, it does pay off.

The original dash pocket is virtually useless.. and multiple stages of filling and sanding. Currently waiting on color matched vinyl dye and specific primer for plastics. Will be able to match the OEM texture pretty close.
