Bought an X
Hello everyone ! Hope you all doing well. So eversince I got my Xterra I alwasy wanted to build it into nice off road build with front and rear bumper . This year is been so good I finally got front bumper ( was donated to me ) and after that I started to look more and more into rear bumper tire carrier options but they all so expenise so I went with plan B ! and looked into how to build my own . And finally with a help of a friend I finally build one and I think it came out just amazing !

General Tarfun (what a great name) replacing his Grackles (another great name) steering wheel motivated me to post how to rehab a old leather X steering wheel coated in 20 years of French fry grease and palm sweat making a sticky black coating. I had assumed that the leather was ruined and it was what was sticky. Not the case. I got this Leather Honey leather cleaner and conditioner on Amazon. Rub it on gently with a clean cloth. It took several hours to clean mine. Hopefully your hygiene habits are better than mine and it will go better. You know you are at the leather because it. Is shiny and not sticky when wet. Don’t rub to hard or you can rough up the leather. Mine was embarrassingly gross but you couldn’t tell unless you grabbed it with wet hands. When done use conditioner on it ;)

I plan on moving the 20 in light bar from the front of the X to the truck, just need to get my spots first.

Yea have to use Skin-Less, and Squeeze For max Benefit ... Vodka helps Removing the Pulp, with ICE..
Our preferred antifreeze formula is to mix the orange stuff with rum, amaretto, triple sec, and a bit of pineapple. And ice of course just to show it works ;)

Had a gallon of Milk, topple over in the rear seat of the X. Lucky me, had cover-king seat cover.. Did not soak through. WHEW.

Removed and washed it.. That could,EH would have been a stinky mess come Summer.

Least the seat cover has protective liner.. whew. Just in Case Friends Depends Leaks Seat will be safe!!!. BUT, does not hurt to have Pet Pee mat, Laying in seat just in case.. ;-)

And thankfully it fit in my small European garage, 4 inches of clearance.

Found a website with trails here in Moldova. Most look like unimproved roads rather than off road trails, but will be fun to explore.

Rough part is insurance here is based on engine size. My 30 day temp insurance was $115. Scared to see what the year long policy will cost once my vehicle is registered .

Glad it arrived! That insurance thing sounds scary, but looking forward to seeing some adventures.

Have fun and be safe! When I was stationed in Belgium I got screwed with that. My insurance was a higher monthly payment than my brand new car at the time. I’m still salty about that because USAA took advantage of the situation and charged extra.

Ironman UCAs installed. Will be selling the SPC. Primary reason is the height of the ball joint and it beating the crap out of my fender. I don’t want to put a top spacer on due to my garage being tight already, so I’m hoping this will allow me to get a little more up travel back by cutting another ring off my poly bump stops. @TerryD you did all the homework on the travel capabilities — can you dummy check me here and confirm?

For clearance between the UCA and fender liner, I have over an inch more now.

Replaced this bolt on my steering shaft. Had to track down the part at an Infiniti dealer. I must’ve tightened it down too much last time. Had to use a breaker bar to get the nut loose last night and I’m guessing it bent then.

I can't find my numbers but you should be good. If you're not running a spacer you don't have to worry about bottoming out the shock and if it's the same length as OE, you can most likely go back to the stock flat pad.

Thanks, that makes sense but you never know where there’s some tricky thing and I wanted to check. Would you go back to rubber vs just cutting two more layers off the poly?

Pull your swaybar and flex it out. Then you can see what would make more sense based on the amount of up travel you can actually use.

I chose to put spacers on so I have more down travel from static ride height myself but you have to be able to adjust your coilovers to do that and keep your current amount of lift.

Picked up a new 24f agm from Walmart - would have gone Costco, but apparently interstate is discontinuing the 24f agm Probably the same manufacturer anyways. WM didn’t end up charging me the core so I turned the old one in at AutoZone for a $10 GC. Now need to drive around to clear all the monitors so I can take the X in for smog.

I didn’t even think of that but I wonder if the lack of sway bar is why my UCAs hitting the fender seemed so much more pronounced than other people indicated.

Put the new rooftop tent up in the X today. I'm definitely going to have to do something about the springs. There's a local company that makes them in house. I'll need to save up about 700, and take the X in and have them make exactly what I need to handle the weight back there.

Also nabbed myself a table saw yesterday. Gonna build some cool stuff with it.

Also, there are definitely differences between the two tents. For starters, the logo design on the tents is different. The old tent uses d-rings to hold the hard shell down. The new one uses cam buckles on the straps (huge improvement, BTW). I've yet to open the new tent to see the differences on the inside.

Probably. That's why I put in the extended bumps to begin with. Even with the spacer I was smashing the fender liners with the UCA. Now I haven't noticed any more contact with the energy bump stop with the top ring off

The ball joints are recessed way down there, so there’s basically a little bucket that will fill up with salt, chemicals, mud, and water/ice. All that stuff will have nowhere to go but seep downward. There are aftermarket covers with an o-ring I can get, but roads are being pretreated now for freezing rain overnight, so I used bathtub stoppers and silicone for a temporary solution.

Completed the purchase of new to me 2007 Red Xterra. Bunch of running around getting the tags, and 1.5 hours at the auto spa. Seniors day is Wednesday so I got 20% off. Savings quickly gone as they fixed a chip in the windshield. No photo yet, gets dark quickly up here in the northland.
