Pulled the headlights and installed the custom led projectors I bought from freedom retrofits that took around half a year for them to build and have been sitting in my garage for another 4-5 months.

diode dynamics SS3s installed and bumper is ready to go on. Don’t mind the crappy job on the lamin-X on the headlight, heat gun is coming out tomorrow.

Ran out of time since I had to get cleaned up for our anniversary dinner with the wife. Will have to figure out setting it on jackstands or hanging it from something to get it bolted up tomorrow morning.

Nice work!! I was way too cowardly when I painted to remove mine so I masked everything. Are you getting one of those cool custom bumpers? I can only dream of those. Shipping is way more than the bumper. Anyway great job!

Thanks! It’s a Nismo bumper that I ordered last November and finally arrived about a month and a half ago. Lucked out on shipping - when I ordered it they authorized an additional i think $185 for freight. When they finally were going to send it to me they initially tried to tell me it was going to be another $700, but since they had already charged additional for freight they ended up honoring that.

That’s going to be beautiful when you’re done! And functional too :)

Jack stands to assist, taped the weldnut plates in place in an attempt to make things easier

These bolts were a pain in the ass to get into all the holes in the weldnut plates

marvels of modern engineering, the instructions had you do everything hand tight until the end, making it impossible to get a torque wrench or even socket on some of the bolts. The silver ones were a pain, but notice the one you can barely see at the top middle going in93DA8391-2BD9-41D1-BB39-9358872CD702.jpeg

Tires had already pre trimmed part of the fender liners for me. I trimmed them some more

then stuffed them into the bumper

The stock skid could probably be bent and new holes drilled to bolt up. I didn’t have time or patience for that

SS3s weren’t turning on. Figured maybe I wired them backwards, so I grabbed a patch cable I’d used previously to reverse an h11 connection and voila it worked. So I cut the connector off, flipped it around and connected it. No light. After messing with it for half an hour determined that the pins in the h11 connectors weren’t long enough for the factory connector but they were for the patch cables. On the driver side ended up having to use wire nuts to put a different connector that worked, since the ss3 wiring was barely accessible. Then moved to the pass side and just threw a patch cable in between.

Not so much for the X, but I ordered all the parts for mounting the traction boards to the rails on the trailer, as well as quick fists for mounting my axe.

I also ordered a diesel heater for winter camping.

Again, not the X, but as both are an integral part of my camping setup....

Wired up the interior cargo lights on the trailer.

Also put one in the kitchen box.

Just need to clean up the wiring, and mount the switches when the project boxes come on Sunday.

I'm going to attempt to handle the issue of shiat freezing/not working properly when it's cold. Ordered a two pack of 12x18 rv tank heaters, as well as a 2 pack of 7.25x25. The 7.25x25 just happens to be the perfect length to be able to wrap around my propane tank in the trailer. The second one will go to my buddy.

Also cleaned off the 20 year old water spot stained area out of reach of the wipers. Used Ettore water spot remover which is a clay like polish that doesn’t scratch the window. Works best by spraying blue window cleaner on then rubbing the paste on. Let paste dry and rub off like wax. Clean with window cleaner. Mine was very old so took two applications but made the windshield look new! Tried several other products but none workedC0E40246-FBDD-43CF-B1D2-0DA35852C4D5.pngCB4DC464-8CB3-415B-90F0-FA6A829265C8.jpeg

It works surprisingly well.

But it does need to be used with the window cleaner. I think there is a little bit of ammonia in it that aids the whole process. Plain water didn’t works as well. I tried like three other glass cleaners including glass stove top polish that didn’t work well at all. Still takes some elbow grease but my windshield is so much nicer now. Or you can just hit it with a hammer and crack it so you have to get a new one ;) like SledheadX!

Blue window cleaner meaning windex? Or the stuff that comes out of the windshield squatters?
Well the thing I remember for traveling in Russia back in the 90’s was “Don’t drink blue fluids” which suggests the presence of alcohol ;). In the meantime here are photos of the stuff I’m using which contains a lot of wild stuff including alcohol!! Russians were on to something!

Was married to a woman of Russian family descent on both sides... wasn't unlikely to see a 16 oz tumbler full of ice and Vodka at a family get together... I get it.

So since I was working on my frame.. prepping it for the winter.. I also tried to remove my old bump stops but broke off all the nuts so I ended up replacing them with a budget bump stops but they seems to work great and easy on the wallet

Be careful with those. They allow more up travel than the OE ones and could allow your shocks to bottom out and bend.

Spent most of Saturday underneath the X trying to fix the trans fluid leak. Replaced all the hose clamps on the return side, and it was still leaking ever so slowly. Ended up getting it patched up enough to drive it to the mechanic for them to take a look at.

Just got off the phone with the shop, and they're going to see if they can get it up on the rack today. If not today, they should be able to take a look at it tomorrow.
