Okay. So.

Further research and reading. Safari will not be supporting notifications any time soon. This is a limitation of the Apple software at this point. Not the forum. So. I'm sorry iOS guys. If you want notifications, you have to use Chrome.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but not an option on chrome on iOS 14.1, iPhone 11. I can look at the iPad later. B87D15DE-6E63-4594-AF51-B772148D2DB0.jpeg

I will just go ahead and ask for a "back to the top" button again......

Another Forum has an up arrow that comes up in each post over by the post number on the right..... it's pretty cool that way.

Site has been pretty terrible with load times last couple days. Lots of times it’s down completely. Sometimes it loads but without CSS (just plain text), and others it loads but this reply window can’t be typed in and none of the other JS/AJAX stuff works.

confirmed it’s not just me

It's not just you. Your description matches my experience exactly. As I understand it the web host is looking at the issue.

gobbleaddy seems to have been acting stupid as of late, I've had a few sites I work on here that clients have chosen to host with them that have been having issues, so it isn't just XN having the issue.

If you run your own hosting account it might be worth the trouble to just put up a second installation of the forum software for testing purposes. I'm fortunate enough to have one-click app install on CPanel but it might be more effort in your case. Post a test message or two and check the refresh. If it's still slow it's the host, if it's fast it's the forum/db setup.

There are two ways to upload/add images from a phone -- the "Attach files" button below, and the "Insert Image" button here within the editor toolbar. If I choose attach files, it will be the full size image from the phone, which is usually around 5-6MB, and is probably contributing to killing the site storage-wise and load-wise. The Insert Image function lets me choose a pic from the phone, but offers me reduced-size version of small, medium, and large, which should be preferred for site usability.

I've noticed though it flips my photos upside-down. Apparently this is due to some sort of exif reading on the backend trying to 'correct' the image, but just getting it wrong. There are a number of threads about this in xenforo, and the suggested fixes are updating whatever image processor. Any way we can do that so I don't have to upload monster-sized images and suck up everybody's data plans?

I mostly use a full browser (Firefox) on my lappy. If I attach files/insert full image or use the toolbar insert image I'm allowed to resize the image dynamically with click and drag. I don't think changing anything with regard to the phone/mobile interface will help storage. Sizing and stuff is applied to a file you've uploaded first. That full file is still sitting up there regardless of how it's displayed in the PC/Phone browser. Or such is my understanding. You probably already know that but still...

I tried going through a test on my Android phone and I don't get a small/medium/large on "insert image" it just throws the full file into the post. That could be just iPhone vs Android browser interface but I didn't track it down. Same thing with the attach/insert as far as only getting the full image. Honestly if I HAD to post an image from my phone and it HAD to be sized I'd do it in A+ Gallery (or whatever you use to view images on your phone) setting the resolution to what I want then save and upload a smaller version. I'm lazy though so I'd probably just insert the full image and say fork it.

This was my sample image for a test... and my campsite at Sly Park in June. :)

I don’t know if the resizing is an iPhone thing or the site. I know that in Wordpress (I use it for a few websites) it does have to upload the full file, but it should resize it, display the reduced version, and trash the original. So when you scroll by on your phone the page is on average five times smaller in size than it would be if it displayed the full size image.

I’m using Chrome browser on an iPhone. This is what I see after I choose an image with Insert Image. Drastic difference in file size.
