Want to learn a little about Canoes

So my me and a friend are looking into buying a canoe this summer. We might get one of the 500 dollar ones at Bass Pro, or buy a used one. We want one to fish out of. I know that canoes are made out of different materials (ie. fiberglass, aluminum) and there are different lakes and what not. What would be a good type of canoe to buy for a limited budget. What should we check for when looking at used ones, and what are different benefits of different types?

Also what should I do to transport it with the X?

If I were you I'd look at a small jon boat. You'd have more room and it would be more stable than a canoe. Check CL for one. I see them all the time for pretty cheap. You can even get a tolling motor so you don't have to paddle... :)

problem is I would need something I can store on the wall of my girlfriends garage and I would need a trailer for that I think

Alum will be lighter, but if you are anywhere where there are rocky bottoms it will get scratched and deformed much easier.
Fiberglas will be heavier, but it will more comfortable, and they are usually wider, and more stable. Personally I would get a fiberglas.

A 10 foot jon would work without a trailer and would fit on top of the x. It wouldn't be bad to lift up with 2 people. Aluminum can get banged up but you can always take a gamer and fix that...lol
