This was posted on the VAXC Facebook page. I spoke to the organizer, Tim Durrett, and asked if he minded that I post the event here to see if we can get more of a turnout.

We are aware this is Mother's Day weekend and expect fewer people as a result. You also don't need to commit to coming the entire time. Here are the details from his post:

This is a weekend getaway for all Xterra enthusiasts. This location has primitive campsites (no fees), which will be marked with red "X's". Each of these campsites can hold between 3-7 vehicles. Every X'er is welcome to come and hang out and ride along as we explore different trails.

This is a 3-day event.

After the meetup, we will head up to the camp site(s). (You may need to claim your own near by if there is overflow). After setting up camp, there will be some tooling around the trails. There's a driver's meeting at 7pm back at basecamp (marked with red "X") where we'll hang out and discuss the weekend, have dinner, etc. We'll do a possible night run if people are up to it Friday night as well. We're doing runs to Flagpole Knob, Reddish Knob, up Switzer and possibly down Union Springs if most are willing.

There will be NO CELL SERVICE at camp, so if you're not meeting at Lowes at 1pm (see address below), you will need to coordinate with other late arrivals to navigate up campsites. (coordinates in “campsite” details below)

We'll be monitoring GMRS Channel 17 (462.6) & CB Channel 7 (27.035)

As mentioned above, these are primitive campsites - no amenities. You'll need to pack your own food in, locally sourced firewood or bring an axe/saw and find standing dead wood, food, shelter, toiletries, etc. Most importantly, if you pack it in, you'll need to pack it out. (Tread Lightly)

I'll update this section as we have more information.

Campsite Location:
There are several campsites in the immediate vicinity. These coordinates can be copied and pasted into Google Maps. I'll also try to give instructions below for those that don't use the app, though I HIGHLY recommend using a GPS that allows you to punch in coordinates.

Entrance to Camp Area: 38.34001, -79.24604

See bottom of post for written directions

When:
May 7th - 9th

Primary Meeting Time & Location:
Lowes Staunton
1028 Richmond Ave
Staunton, VA 24401

1:00pm in the eastern corner of the parking lot.

If you cannot make it to the meeting spot on Friday at 1PM, use the coordinates above to navigate to the camping area. If you require written directions, use the following:

From I-81:

1. From I-81, take exit 220 for VA-262 toward US-11/Staunton
2. Continue onto VA-262 N for 6.6 miles
3. Take the US-250 W/Churchville Avenue exit and proceed 15 miles
4. Turn right onto Braley Pond Rd for ~6.5 miles until you reach Forest Rd 95
5. Turn left onto FR 95 until you reach a small bridge where the camping area begins.

Post has been updated (using this as a bump).

Hope more can make it. I know it's Mother's Day, but if you wanted to come just Saturday for the trail rides or Friday night into Saturday, that's more than fine.

How the heck did I not see the original post? I turned on email notifications for this subforum and didn’t see it in “new posts” either. Weird.

I’m still a “maybe” due to Mother’s Day. I also for some reason thought this was a Flagpole camping thing.

It’s a flagpole trip, but the camping will be a few miles south of flagpole. We’ll take FR-95 to FR-85 in passing Reddish Knob and entering the flagpole from the top/mud pit section/FR-85.

And just a remember, if you wanted to camp, you could do Friday night only and hit trails with us on Saturday morning, then you’ll have Saturday evening and all day Sunday to do Mother’s Day.

Looks like there will be 6-8 going.

If you’re planning to go, let me know ASAP so we can get a more accurate headcount

Feel free to join and wheel Saturday or camp Friday and wheel Saturday if Mother’s Days is the concern. Most are doing one of the above instead of coming the entire weekend.
