Trailer lights but no brake lights and ...

Hello all,

I have a problem with no brake, turn or flashers but I DO have tail lights. I checked the wiring at the rear of the chassis and have no power to that circuit. The only fuse I find for the circuit is under the hood and it checks out fine.

Any ideas on where next to search? I must have a open (broken wire) somewhere and I feel confident I don't have a short as I have no burned fuses.

In the meantime, I will search for a wiring diagram for this.

By the way, my father-in-Law has a similar problem on his first gen Xterra and cannot find the problem either.

Check nico for manual downloads.

Since you've had ecm connection issues in the past, check the connectors on the IPDM to make sure there isn't damage to it.

Is it just your brake lights? Turn signals? Park lights? Or all of them that are dead?

You’ll need a print to dig into this. Best thing is to start at the trailer receptical and work backward. Check for continuity to chassis ground to rule out a short to ground. If you have continuity, stat removing connectors and check both sides to ground to isolate which direction the short is at.

To check for a dead short (open), disconnect connectors and check continuity between them. If you don’t have continuity, you’ll need to find the break in the wire between the two points. If both flashers aren’t working, use the print to see where they are together and work from there.
