Trailer light wiring harness

Well my Xterra didn't come with the wiring harness as I'm sure a lot of yours didn't. Because of this I need to buy the harness and get it connected.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this? I've done a little research on another forum and thought we could use the discussion here.

Courtesy Nissan has the harness for around $60 every time I've looked and I was curious if this is all I'll need?

Once I get the harness it seems like there are some dummy plugs that just need to be unplugged and plug the new harness in. Is this correct or am I connecting the wrong dots?

I had to do mine. All I did was buy the plug and the harness with the relays.

It was pretty simple to plug it in. I don't have a pic of the plug end but here's the relays.

Yep, 5 minutes "plug n play", super easy and done.

The OEM kit comes with a round 7pin plug (that has the trailer brake wire installed as well.)

If you need a flat 4 plug instead, you can buy a 7pin to flat 4 adapter for a few bucks, or a flat 4 harness, that plugs into the OEM plug under by the spare tire.

Thanks so much guys! I'm ordering this right now. Maybe this thread will help someone else out in the future. I don't know why, but before I started researching this I thought it was a super involved process that included tapping into the main harness.

Mine is tapped into the harness in the back, but I also keep all of the wire and plug in the back of the truck when not in use. It is just under the floor for easy access.

Yep. That's the correct harness. I've done it twice now; on both Xterras it was my first mod. The hardest part is finding the plug in the back. It is outboard of the frame, near the drivers side spring shackle mount. There will be a pair of small connectors with dust/water protectors plugged into them. If I recall, one is plugged with blue and the other is plugged with brown. The relay harness goes into the passenger footwell kick panel, and it is cake. The directions that come with the harness are really good, and have pictures and whatnot.

Anytime. You run into any trouble or have any questions, PM me. I can climb under my rig and take pics or whatever. Should be a cakewalk though.

I felt like I was reading something Dave wrote for a minute ;)

Yeah I leave for Denver Monday do I've been focusing on family time a little more the past few days. Saturday is a day I plan to get all kinds of things done before I leave which may or may not include a little painting.
