So I needed to rotate my tires this weekend which gave me the perfect opportunity to test fit my Titan rims. I am currently running 265/75/r16 BFG ATKO's with 1.5" wheel spacers. I found 4 285/65/r18 BFG ATKO's on craigslist for $50. there isn't much tread on them so i might turn around and sell them again. i also have a 265/70/r18 highway tire on my 5th titan wheel that came w/ the rim. That is the size that comes factory on titans. It's gonna get tossed when I eventually buy new tires.

It requires 6x5.5" wheel adapters to run these wheels. my adapters are 1.25' thick.

on to the pics!

this shows how far the wheels stick out w/ the 1.5" wheel spacers and 265's

Factory Titan wheels on 285/65/r18's. I jacked the body up 2" to simulate how it will look once I get my body lift installed. 39" to the fender

now these show the 265/70/r18's on the front and 285/65/r18's on the back. There really isn't that much of a size difference between the two. The biggest difference is due to the tread. the 265's are a highway tire and look tiny.

all in all, i really can't decide which size to go with. the 265's are WAY cheaper, but the 285's look better. Either way, the front liner will need some adjustment requiring more than the melt mod.

I dunno, I like the size and style of the Titan wheels, but your rig looks so much better with the blacked out Xterra wheels. If the Titan wheels were black I think it would look sick. :w00t:

that still might happen. I haven't decided if i am going to paint them yet or now. it'll be either bedliner or powdercoat.

I like the old ones.

You said the Titan wheels are 6X5.5 right? Does that mean they would fit a first gen? I noticed there is no center cap, is there clearance in the center for an auto locking hub? I see titan wheels for sale all the time on CL where I live. Please excuse my ignorance.

Abuse, the titan rims wont fit a first gen because of the hubs on a first gen. The titan and second gen X are both unit bearings where the first gen is a hub assembly.

the goal here is better gas mileage...and to be different. really though, who am i kidding...i just want to be different.

The 18" wheels will give less sidewall flex but in all honesty, I don't offroad much. they also weigh less than the 16" steel wheels i was originally looking at.

they will look better when meatier tires are on there.

I like the titan wheels as well, but I would have to do a gunmetal color on them.

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like I won't be drooling over titan wheels on CL.

they can be made to fit if you have the hubs machined out. there are some first gen frontiers that are running them....check over on club frontier.

I think they will look better painted and with meatier tires but I preffer the the black 5 spoke wheels better. Just my 2 cents. I say go with whatever makes you happy...

I've gotta agree with the other guys saying more rubber looks better...**IF** you're building toward an offroad rig, for a general street rig, I'm inclined to say your titan wheels look better....so, I think it really depends on which direction you're aiming for....
