Brilliant! Brilliant i say!

Im collecting the graphic novels now that expand the storyline
I guess I need to look into these now then.

I will say though, the same with Hitchhikers Guide, watching the movie first gave me a great set of characters to experience the books with instead of the ones as described.

Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey both did excellent jobs with the characters even though the writers thoroughly butchered an amazing story line...

Books ruin movies no matter if you read them before or after you watch the movie. This means you either read the book or watch the movie not both of them. Its easier to drink beer while watching a movie compared to reading a book.

That movie was trash imo. And I like both of the actors. I know that storyline front to back, and they ufcked it. Roland is a man of the highest honor, with a specific creed. Last of the Eld. I don't care they made him black to fit a hollywood agenda. I do care that his characters on screen behavior didn't fit cannon at all. I wish I could scrub it from my mind.

I really didn't think his actions in the movie differed from his in the books. I think Idris' Roland was spot on for his character in the first book. Broken and selfishly focused on his quest for Marten and the tower, with little concern for others in his path.

Without Eddie and Susannah's influence I don't think he would have evolved like he did, even with Jake in the first book. His knightly days were well behind him when we first meet him and I feel like King made a point of that with his encounter with the town.

And yes, the movie was a train wreck but I liked the portrayal of the characters.

This is why I try to watch the movie first. It's worked with Jurassic Park, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Dark Tower for me so far.

Martin Freeman's Author Dent and Mos Def's Ford Prefect makes the books that much better. My book reading friend here at work agreed after I had him watch the movie first. Having the mannerisms in your mind really help the mental world building if you have good characters.
The 70s TV series Ford Prefect wasn't nearly as interesting IMO.

See, I respectfully disagree. In the movie he was disgruntled, unhappy and ready to walk away. Roland in the book would sacrifice all for the Tower, and when he couldnt walk to it he would crawl using his last breath and energy. Idris wasn't that focused or driven. They made him more mortal and human, but less cold detached gunslinger. Roland sacrifices Jake for the Tower in the beginning because of his drive. Idris is just .... eh.

Wasnt an accurate portrayal to me. Or even a great representation of Idris ability for that matter.

That is literally the exact opposite of how that should work. Especially if the book comes first. Then your mind has already, wonderfully, made the movie.I think Movies ruin books.

Movies typically ruin books for me because I am a voracious reader. I rarely watch the on screen adaptations, because I am typically disappointed. Oddly, the only movies that really seemed to bring the books alive were the Harry Potter movies.

However, I do agree with the beer part.

Thats why I listen to audio books. The books are generally better than the movies and i can drink beer, wrench on shiat, or anything else for that matter.
Currently working my way through the Bourne series.

Its working on getting cold tonight. The rain is moving in they are calling for a low of 37° for tonight. I'm going to have to pick the remaining hot peppers that are still on the plants before it gets dark.

Well took the pistol out to the range today. Fired off around 100 rounds. I definitely need a couple extra mags as well as a descent holster

After cross country meet we have to race to a different school because daughter#1 has volleyball tournament. We should be done with sports for a few months until club volleyball starts.
