So Boulder, Colorado is voting to outlaw magazines over ten rounds in capacity and "assault weapons", meaning you have to register any allowed weapons and get rid of any items they ban.

Hmm. Neat.

Unrelatedly, I'm heading to the gun store at lunch.

It's called The Peoples Republic of Boulder for a reason.

I love the "let's pass laws to stop something that isn't a problem!"

My exact thinking. My AR has a full compliment of 40 round magazines AND a drum. Why? Because America. Thats all you need to know.
All of that shiat is illegal anyway. Colorado has pre-emtion laws regarding firearms that prohibit cities and counties from making stricter laws than the state laws. It's already in court

I'm reading the law. Apparently my Mossberg would be illegal by their standards. Because pistol grip.

"the scary guns! Ban the scary guns!"

Bwahahahaha

Still not as stupid as canadian guns laws. Only allowed 5 round Magazines for center fire rifles. And yes, ban all the scary looking guns because they look scary.

And here is a fun law for the 10/22 http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/notice-avis-2016-07-27-eng.htm

The maximum capacity of a cartridge magazine is set out in Part 4 of the Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and other Weapons, Components and Parts of Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited, Restricted or Non-Restricted (the Regulations) under the Criminal Code. Pursuant to the Regulations, a magazine that has a capacity which exceeds the maximum permitted capacity is a prohibited device.

Specifically, paragraph 3 (1)(b) of the Regulations prohibit a cartridge magazine that is capable of containing more than 10 cartridges of the type for which the magazine was originally designed and that is designed or manufactured for use in a semi-automatic handgun that is commonly available in Canada.

22 Long Rifle calibre magazines designed or manufactured for 10/22 platform rifles are also inherently designed or manufactured for 10/22 platform handguns. Because 22 Long Rifle calibre 10/22 platform magazines are designed or manufactured for use in a semi-automatic handgun, they are prohibited devices if they are capable of containing more than 10 cartridges. The 10 cartridge limit for the 10/22 platform applies irrespective of the type of firearm it is used in.

My shiats illegal where you are?
Oooohhhhhh....I meant Boulders law is illegal. Not the guns. State law allows for open carry and hicap magazines (but only grandfathered). The did a statewide ban on new sales for hicap mags in 2008 or 2010. And state law has no specific "Assault rifle" language.

The magazine ban was just to shut the hippies up though. Since magazines aren't serialized and tracked, there's really no way to tell if you owned it pre-ban or not.
