Since I'm away from home and no wifi I've found myself using over 3/4 of my 12 gigs of data. So went onto my cell providers website to see if there are any better deals out there. Ended up getting 20 gigs and data role over ( accumulating left over data every month) for an additional $5. Come this tome tomorrow i will have 20 gigs of data and able to spend a bit more time here

Aaaaaand I just realized that the comic spreadsheet I was building was in the RAID that died. ufck.
No bueno. Was it just the enclosure, or was it a jbod enclosure, using a software raid, so you can import the pool somewhere else?

This is part of the reason I'm running truenas. If the hardware fails, I can replace it, and import the pool back in. Probably doesn't help you much though.

Unfortunately, proprietary Drobo Pro 8 bay. The enclosure took a dump. Found a few temp fixes that I can try to resurrect the array just long enough to get the data off of it.

Probably going to go to an OWC box running softraid.

I really like the drobo platform though. It's super flexible and this unit has been reliable for over 10 years. Just not something I was prepared to spend money on right before Xmas.

I get it. I can count the number of random hardware failures I've experienced on one hand. I have an old hp n54l microserver here that has pretty much been running nonstop for about 12 years, and not given me an issue.

I did have an esata jbod enclosure that had a psu failure at one point. I opted to move that array to another system internally, since it just ran a Linux software raid.

I now use a z2 array on truenas, but it was originally built on proxmox. I appreciate and understand the support that comes with proprietary systems, but I prefer the open nature and ability to move/replace parts as needed for my own use.

I.do need to start migrating from my 3tb drives though....

My file / plex server is MacOS. So that's certainly a limitation in options. But. The server architecture is rock solid. So I don't want to change it.

Just say these words "hey, I bought a used computer....." and they'll all run away.
Hey, I buy used server pull parts all the time. Haven't had an issue yet....

I some how stumbled into the computer nerd thread and I can't get out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Without us computer nerds, you'd have no forums to complain on, so quit yer bitchin!

Smashed three fingers in a door at work. One got a pretty good chunk of skin pulled off. Just ufck.....

Building is negative pressure (boiler) and I tried to grab the door before it closed and the negative pressure jerked the door closed on my hand.
