Texas Convoy to WentWindrock (Aka National Xterra Meet)

Hi All, I looking to see how many of my fellow Texans (or Southwest Region folks) are interested in Convoying to WentWindrock in September.

This event was previously known as National Xterra Meet but it has been expanded to all off road Nissans. This event his hosted at one of the best off road parks in the nation. It is always a great time and planned for all skill levels.

I call the middle of the pack. My rig is a flying sheet of plywood. with a gear ratio that anything over 60 means I will need to stop for gas way to often.

Not to mention last year I went to WENT from thursday - sunday. and on my way home a met a couple from Houston who where there too but I never saw!!!

Ha ha ha... Yeah I made the mistake of loading up the roof rack last year and it doubled the number of stops I had to make for gas. I might as well have put a parachute on the back...lol

We always meet great people at these events.

I'm headed for the full event may even show up a day early to get a extra day in...

Since TX is so large there are basically two different routes Dallas over or Houston over. Any thought about which route will be taken?

I'm up for whatever route the majority wants to take. it's about a 16 hour commute from San Antonio and we may have a few meet up points based on everyones locations. I have also been chatting with some of the west coast guys who plan on passing through Texas, so this might be a really large convoy if most peoples schedules align. I will be attending the full event as well and am very flexible on commute times. Whoever is planning on attending please post you City and Date(s) you are planning to leave for the event, this will help us all plan the best route and times.

It's looking good so far, working with the west coast convoy to try and get them to pass through San Antonio as part of the trip. Should be a good number of rigs :)

So is anyone else coming along?

So are we headed up the 22nd or the 23rd. 22nd would be pretty cool for an extra day!! That brings up a good point, is everyone planning on driving straight through till we get there right besides gas, food and ect??

I thinking the 22nd to give us time so we are not in a rush. Seem that most of the convoy will be meeting around the Houston area which is about 14 hours to Windrock. I am coming from San Antonio which makes it a 17 hour drive for me. If everyone wants to leave early from Houston on the 22nd, I can drive to Houston on the 21st to save a few hours. If a few of us need time to get to Houston on the 22nd then I say we stop later that day, make camp, and BBQ before an early start the next day. I would rather keep it a fun and safe commute since I'm not sure how many of us are endurance drivers. I've done 14 hours from Phoenix to San Antonio and there's not much time to stop and eat before the drive or late night starts to get to you. So since it's a group effort please voice your choice as I am flexible and think it will be great either way.

I am an endurance driver for sure. I've done 24hrs a few times in my life and do 18+hr fairly often. I typicaly do the whole stop on E and fill up eat and bathroom type driving. Now that i get worst MPG it becomes easier then a car that gets 28+mpg

You guys can meet me up anywhere I can be sitting and waiting at a gas station or something. That way you can stop for gas if needed or I can just pull out and play catch up. Don't bother me.

On my trips to Lafayette, I'm always gassing up at the Jennings Walmart, so it most likely won't be a straight shot to Laf.

I'd say, pick a place along I-10 near you that makes sense.

Exit 104 would work the best then right after Lafayette and you don't have to deal with as much traffic heading in and out. It has a Target, Academy, Some faster food joints...

Sounds like a plan... So I say we start early on the 22nd, pick up Metzican along the way. I will head to Houston Sunday the 21st and hangout there for the night. This way we can all get an early start if everyone's good with the plan.

Since I am not familiar with Houston I will leave that up to you all. I would suggest off of i-10 on the way out of town to avoid rush hour traffic.

I'm seriously going to have to do some planning to go to one of these WENT event's. A convoy always sounds like fun! :kewl: Enjoy the adventure and take lots of pictures!
