TCM plug and play

Hi, I purchased a used TCM from a salvage yard site for my 02 Xterra 3.3L 4x4 Automatic. If its off the same year Xterra, should it be plug and play or be reprogrammed? If I switch them and it needs to be programmed, will I be able to drive it to a shop? I am not sure if I should head to a transmission shop for the whole thing or try this myself?
Thanks

So, I replaced the TCM with a used one from the same vehicle and cleared the codes but I am still getting these exact same codes but I have no negative symptoms and haven't had any before the install. Any ideas?

P1605 A/T Diagnosis Communication Line Malfunction
P0600 TCM Communication Line Circuit Malfunction

P0328- I am awaiting a new knock sensor and harness.

Correction: I had to clear the codes on the vehicle and the scanner and now I have only P1605 remaining.
I replaced the TCM and replaced and relocated the knock sensor and harness.

Hopefully the code doesn't return.

I ended up taking the vehicle to a transmission shop and they seemed to find an fix the problems. The transmission was not getting power because of some faulty wiring and a blown fuse. The shop said it looked as though someone worked on it and messed it up, which wasn't me. It was stuck in one of the gears, explaining the sluggish start and high rpms at higher speeds. He did check out my knock sensor relocation and said that it should work just fine.

So, now the Xterra feels like a whole different vehicle, in a good way. It shifts smoothly, takes off so much better and the rpms dropped significantly in higher gears. The "service engine light" is off too. Obviously my gas milage has improved.

I guess my TCM was fine all along. So I have an extra one.
Thanks for the help.
