Strange heating issues

Searched around but didn’t find anything like the issue I’m having. (2011 P4X, 190,000), start it up, let it warm up, temp gauge goes to where it should & no heat whatsoever. Right off the bat I’m thinking thermostat. Look it up on YouTube, (looks like a real PITA to change), but if I shut the truck off & pull the key out & restart it… instant heat. Now I’m thinking maybe there’s some kind of electric sensor going bad. Any ideas? The radiator is full but when this problem does occur & it only happens every now & then, when I shut it off to restart I do hear a gurgling for a few seconds. Thermostat- some kind of sensor?
on the upside the thermostat is pretty cheap and I’m definitely going to replace it but wanted to check with the forum and see if y’all have any other suggestions. Tanx

Check the condition of your heater tees at the firewall. They are common failure points and known to leak. Dorman makes a metal version of the longer one and Z1 Offroad makes a nice version of the short one with a bleeder screw.
