Hey All,
So I just got back from the tire shop with these great Yokohama Geolander 285s.

Unfortunately, this little nubbin in the back front fender rubs on both sides (one more than the other).

Any thoughts on how to fix this little issue? I'm assuming it will involve some trimming? Is the some special way I should go about trimming that section? Can I avoid trimming?

Isn't that just the melt mod ?

When I put 33's on with a 2.5" lift already installed I rubbed on the bottom 4 inch's where the plastic bump's out a little at full lock either way. I first did the melt mod and I didn't like how close it still sat to the tire so then I grabbed mini sledge-a-matic and banged on it till I split the plastic [ I'm a dummy ] on the other side I took the couple of screw's out of the plastic on the bottom then I lifted it up then beat the metal in a little , bending that seam/edge area inward's then reattached the plastic and did the melt mod . As you can see I need to move the hole in the plastic so it fit's tighter. When I do that I'll throw some POR-15 on it where I bent the metal and cover it back with the plastic. I guess some would say it's peening the seam over with a smaller hammer for better control .

Sometimes adjusting the alignment can bring the tires a bit forward so they don't rub there but you need a skilled tech willing to take the time to figure it out. I could be wrong but the more times I've looked at that spot on mine rubbing a bit it seems like it could be trimmed a little to take off some of that forward lip.

Trimming is the sure fix. Cut that square bit of plastic off and get out a cut off wheel, won't take much. The only thing is you need to make sure it clears at full compression, with the wheel turned too.

With aftermarket wheels and 285s you are in the trimming zone, like @IM1RU said. Even a semi-brutal alignment might not gain you what you need there.
