SPC Forged UCAs contacting top of fender

I saw one person mention this and everybody else was telling him he must be mistaken. However, it is true that the forged UCA from SPC does indeed contact the top of the fender when the spring is mostly or all the way compressed.

This is not as loud as a few of the hits, but I managed to capture it with a GoPro, suction mount, and a headlamp strapped to it:

I’m running Bilstein 5100 at lowest/stock setting with the ADO 2” lift spring, which is really around an inch of lift now. That’s it. My first thought was maybe get a 1/4” top spacer for a 1/2” of clearance, but I don’t know if that’s going to cut it.

Any ideas?

Mine don't hit with 2.5" of lift . 1.5" from the coil over and a .5" spacer . Just lift it more .............you know you want to !! Would heavy duty coil's keep it up higher ? I mean with the RTT and other goodie's you haul around , just a thought .

I had to put extended bump stops on my LCAs to keep my SPCs from hitting. They actually made contact once enough to bend the bolts holding my IPDM box to the inner fender.

I just got the generic Energy Suspension stops from Advance and cut the top ring off them.

You might have to slightly drill out the holes from the original bump stops to fit the standard bolt, but I can't remember. 3/8" IIRC.

Normally yes, but I can’t fit in my garage and I can barely lift kayaks up! Plus I worry about binding up the CVs. Since I’ve shrunk some I may try a 1/4” spacer with the bump stop

Thanks. I don’t know why I didn’t remember this. I think I’ll do a tiny top hat with the bump stop.

Follow up question @TerryD - how did you determine how much to cut off? The only thing I can think of is install, attach GoPro, drop off a curb, then see how much room I still have, which will tell me if I can cut the next layer off.

Mine will be here today. Still debating on whether to do a small spacer lift.

I think I pulled the shock and cycled the suspension with a jack? I don't have sway bars though.

I meant to followup with this and say that I changed to the same bump stop @TerryD recommended and cut the same amount off and that prevented any smacks at Peter's Mill Run this past weekend. It was rainy though so I didn't mess with the camera to see how much room I had left. I have the 1/4" spacers but haven't been able to install them yet. Presumably I should at least be able to cut off the next layer down, but we'll see.

Actually installing the shock spacers won't change your bump setup unless it takes away enough up travel that you're suddenly bottoming out the shocks on compression, but then you'll need longer bump stops instead of shorter.

My up travel is currently limited by my fender liner and the forged SPC being so much taller, or rather the bump stop now. It still has more to give before the shock bottoms out.

Unless I’m missing something, here is my logic, using arbitrary round numbers:
Before the UCAs: Say 6” of total shock travel available, 3” down and 3” up.
With UCAs and bump stops just installed: 5” of total travel, 3” down and 2” up
With the spacer added and trimming bump stop further: 6” of travel back, 2.5” down and 3.5” up

With the spacer you're only compressing the shock a 1/4" more at full compression. You're not affecting the control arms position relative to the inner fender.

FWIW I'm running a 1/2" spacer and SPCs and I have those bump stops with only the top ring cut off because my upper ball joints were amazing smashing the bolts on the metal inner fender wells.

Ah, I get what you’re saying. The spacer will move the top of the arm away from the fender and the bump stop slightly farther down (in park), but when it compresses back up the bump stop still needs to be at the same height since the height of the bottom of the lower arm to the top of the upper arm doesn’t change.

I could still potentially trim farther on the bump stop, but that’s a static value rather than something that changes with spacers.
