Spare Tire Bags aka The Trasharoo Thread

I am to the point where I am looking at spare tire bags for taking firewood and returning trash. Now that they've been about for a while there seems to be a small market. I have heard / read some folks experience with the Trasharoo, mainly don't leave it mounted year round, as it is not very UV robust.

What do you run? A Trasharoo or some other form? What is your experience?

I have a trasharoo that I only put on when heading out camping. I keep mini traction boards in there I use for leveling and sometimes add other stuff in there as needed.

No issues with discoloration yet but I haven’t had it long. But if it fades to the point I can’t stand it anymore I think I can buy at least three more trasharoos at full price and still be at less $$ than the next-cheapest version of “overland” spare tire bags.

Nothing tactical or worksite at all. I carry a few large contractor bags to put my trash in, or trash I find. Then chuck it.

I've run a Trasharoo for years. It carried a lot of my trash and used wag bags, and maybe more of other peoples bullshiat they left behind. It faded to the point of failure. I haven't found anything I'd rather run. But I'd be open to spare tire bag options.

I think the Trasharoo is too affordable for its intended use. You're not going to be heart broken if you destroy one.

The BROG spare tire bag is really nice but for the price, it's hard to justify it to haul wood and trash in.

The BROG also does not come with a mounting system in the base price.

OH! LOL a literal contractor grade trash bag. I'm tracking now.

LOL yep. It may not be a fancy rubberized or canvas bag that the overlanders like to hang off their spare tires, but it gets the job done and takes up almost no space when not needed. Then I just chuck the entire thing at the first gas station dumpster I find after I leave the campsite. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Or sleazy depending on how you look at it.

We have a separate bag for solid waste that gets put in a bucket with a tight lid. That’s assuming we are in a place without a shiatter shack.

Also in the "I don't have a spare tire on the back" contractor bag club. Wag bags in the wet box. We generally aren't doing more than a few days away from syphilization so we don't generate large amounts of trash.

But, if I did have a spare tire carrier on the back, I'd probably find a Trasharoo handy.

Yeah, that is very unfortunate. But I understand it too. Maybe you got the mount kit when you got the MAX Traks bag, or maybe you have the smaller bag and it has the mount kit. Possibly you have a different way you want it mounted. (shrug)

@XterraRising So where do you put the wag bags filled with poop, for days on end before you leave?

Do you guys not just dig a cat hole?

One of my pet peeves anyway is finding a perfect campsite, only to find all the shiat left behind by assholes that either didn’t dig a cat hole, or didn’t do it right. Better to pack it out and “leave no trace.”

Absolutely not. Here in the dry west, none of that breaks down. Not in the high alpine areas, and not in the desert. Along with that, most of the alpine areas are water shed areas. Never shiat in your own water, in fact there are many canyons here that you cannot even take your dog into. In the desert, even toilet paper can last for decades. The only proper way to do it is in an out outhouse, or wag bags.
I always carry these items:

There is no reason whatsoever to leave behind anything. I am a hard core "Leave no Trace" kind of guy.
